HILLARY Clinton claims that Donald Trump is trying to “distract people from his election loss”.

In a barbed social media attack, she tweeted today: “He doesn’t care that the costs are America’s health, security, and our very democracy.”

Mrs Clinton hit out as the president continues to refuse to accept his loss to Democratic President-elect Joe Biden.

With mounting desperation, Mr Trump today called on Republican lawmakers to reverse his election failure when Congress convenes for a joint session this week to confirm the Electoral College vote.

His unprecedented attempt to overturn the presidential election is splitting the Republican Party.

It also follows a shocking phone call where Mr Trump pressured Georgia’s Republican secretary of state to “find” enough votes to help overturn Biden’s win.

The latest developments prompted Mrs Clinton to tweet: “What we’re seeing right now is a president with nothing left to lose and only one goal -to distract people from the fact that he lost.

“He doesn’t care that the costs are America’s health, security, and our very democracy.”

Her barbed reaction prompted one supporter to urge, "please get him arrested", while another replied: "Neither do a whole bunch of Republicans."

This is in reference to Mr Trump’s allies taking up his unfounded claims of voter fraud.

The effort to keep him in the White House is being led by Sens. Josh Hawley of Missouri and Ted Cruz of Texas, along with rank-and-file House members, some on the party’s fringe.

Among them is newly elected Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who is aligned with the QAnon conspiracy group backing Mr Trump.

“Just got off the phone with @realDonaldTrump,” she tweeted.

Greene, a staunch Republican and Trump ally, urged: “He wants you to call your Rep & Senators TODAY, ALL DAY! Don’t let Republicans be the Surrender Caucus!”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has been conferring privately with other Republicans.

Both Mr Hawley and Mr Cruz are potential 2024 presidential contenders, vying for Mr Trump’s mammoth base of keen supporters.

Joe Biden, meanwhile, speaking at a drive-in rally in Atlanta, said Mr Trump “spends more time whining and complaining” than he does working on solving the coronavirus pandemic.

The president-elect added dismissively: “I don’t know why he still wants the job — he doesn’t want to do the work.”

So far, Mr Trump has enlisted support from a dozen Republican senators and up to 100 House Republicans to challenge Mr Biden’s 306-232 Electoral College win.

With the Democrat set to be inaugurated on January 20, Mr Trump is intensifying efforts to prevent the traditional transfer of power.

On a call disclosed on Sunday, he can be heard pressuring Georgia officials to “find” him more votes from the November 3 election he lost in that state.

The phone call with Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was the latest step in an unprecedented effort by a sitting president to press a state official to reverse the outcome of a free and fair election that he lost.

The president repeatedly argued that Mr Raffensperger could change the certified results.

“I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state,” said Mr Trump.

Despite the desperate push to change history, Mr Raffensperger told the Associated Press: "In Georgia, we did get it right.

"I’m not happy with the result – as a Republican – but it is the right result based on the numbers that we saw cast.”
