A British policewoman has reportedly been raped at knifepoint underneath the Eiffel Tower.
The police officer, 23, told French police she was assaulted by the knife-wielding man in the Champ de Mars park shortly before midnight on Monday, October 16.
She said she had rejected the man’s advances before he pulled out the knife on Monday evening.
The officer called the police following the incident, according to the Daily Mail, and an anti-crime squad was dispatched to the scene.
She was taken care of by firefighters as she provided a description of the man to attending officers that evening.
French police said a 35-year-old man was arrested roughly an hour after the woman reported the attack and provided her description.
Local publication Le Parisien reported that she was staying in Paris as a tourist with a friend when she was attacked.
The attacker pounced on her after she was briefly separated from her friend while using the toilet on Monday evening.
She was pounced upon as she went behind a bush, and her attacker has reportedly spent the night in custody.
The incident will have led to increased pressure on Parisian mayor Anne Hidalgo to shut the Champ de Mars overnight due to a string of recent crimes.
