HORSES leap through flames in an ancient purification ceremony.

About 100 took part in the night-time Spanish festival, held on the eve of Saint Anthony’s Day — the country’s patron saint of animals.

It has been called cruel but organisers in San Bartolome de Pinares say the horses’ hair is cut to avoid burns.
