Hand-crafted warrior costumes and tricked out modified vehicles are a requirement for the post-apocalyptic event that mixes a Burning Man-style desert party with the film Mad Max.
Festival-goers set up campsites to live “beyond the grip of so-called civilisation”, according to the event’s website.
The annual event was inspired by the Mad Max film series and was created in 2010 by Karol Bartoszynski, Jared Butler and James Howard.
During the festival, which was held from September 26 to 30, there was a Death Guild Thunderdome where festival-goers sparred with customised life-like weapons.
Here you can scroll through a collection of some of the most extraordinary scenes from this year’s festival in California's Mojave Desert.
