Kate goes casual in jeans at first royal engagement since birth of Louis

Kate Middleton marked the end of her maternity leave and returned to work today as she visited a wildlife garden in London.

The Duchess of Cambridge, who took several months off from public engagements following the birth of her third child, Prince Louis on April 23, looked very casual – and prepared – for an afternoon of exploring.

She stepped out in a green waterproof jacket, £475 Penelope Chilvers knee-high boots and khaki brown jeans thought to be by Zara, along with a green jumper and £395 white shirt with leaves on the collar by brand Joseph.

Continuing with the green theme, she was also wearing £125 Monica Vinader gold-plated wire earrings featuring green onyx.

The 36-year-old appears to have added sunkissed blonde highlights to her brunette locks, while onlookers said she was sporting a healthy tan.

Kate has travelled to Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden at Paddington Recreation Ground in west London where she was greeted by school children who couldn’t stop showering her with hugs.

After giving Kate a bunch of flowers, the adorable pupils shook her hand and gathered around her and cuddled her legs.

And when the Duchess asked the youngsters what their favourite thing about the wildlife school was, they told her: "Eating" leaving Kate in giggles.

Kate also took part in a ‘mini beast’ hunt searching for bugs with one pupil and planted pea seeds with another, before going on a forest walk.

She was also seen helping the children fill up their watering cans and make leaf crowns.

One cheeky pupil also left Kate chuckling as the youngster messed around with a cup while sat beside the royal during storytime.

Ahead of her arrival to the charity, they tweeted that they were "really excited" and "very proud" the Duchess was visiting.

The Forest School and Wildlife Garden gives inner city children a unique opportunity to learn about and engage with the natural world.

And the Sayers Croft Trust works with the community, especially young people, to encourage the enjoyment and care of the environment.

Meanwhile, Kate’s much-anticipated return to the royal circuit was met with cheers from the crowds gathered.

Last spring, Kensington Palace confirmed that Kate would be taking the summer off and would not return to official duties until the autumn, although they did not reveal an exact date.

They added that her priority would be to look after her three young children.

Kate made her last royal engagement in March before heading off on maternity leave. She attended an event celebrating the Commonwealth with husband Prince William at her side.

Although Kate has been snapped at family events, including Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May, Wimbledon, the 100th anniversary of the RAF and Prince Louis’ christening, this is her first time solo engagement since Louis was born.

She’s also set to make an appearance at a charity event for World Mental Health Day next week, as well as attending the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank in Windsor on October 12.

When George , five, was born, Kate was not seen for around six weeks, while with Charlotte , three, she was off for around two months.

Last week, Kate was seen alongside her two eldest children as she attended the wedding of close friends Sophie Carter and Robert Snuggs .

Meanwhile, a close pal of Princess Diana blasted Kate’s mum this week for selling a Halloween costume of a princess covered in blood.

The children’s outfit, named ‘Zombie Sleeping Princess’ is on sale on Carole Middleton’s Party Pieces website.
