Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral was held on Monday, September 19, marked by a bank holiday and one of the largest ceremonial events in modern British history.
Following the monarch’s death on September 8, King Charles III took the throne, changing the Royal Family’s line of succession in the process.
The new King immediately announced 17 days for the Royal Mourning Period in the wake of his new title.
It is a time of major upheaval in the UK, as the nation adjusts to losing a huge part of its identity.
King Charles is helping navigate us through the process, with Prince William and Anne, Princess Royal at his side.
However, this process will all begin again in the event of King Charles’ death, a secretive event known as the code name Operation Menai Bridge.
Here is everything you need to know about the Royal Family’s great change.
What is Operation Menai Bridge?
Operation Menai Bridge will begin in the event of King Charles III's eventual death and will outline the plans for the days and weeks following it.
In fact, preparations for Menai Bridge are beginning as soon as September 21, according to former royal protection officer Simon Morgan.
In an interview with Today, he said: "Unfortunately as of tomorrow morning planning for Operation Menai Bridge will start in earnest.
"Even the King said in his acceptance that he will take this role for as long as life allows him to.
"He is 73 years of age, it's got to be in the back of your mind, and from the police, we've got to start planning again for the future."
It is similar to Operation London Bridge, which was the protocol for Queen Elizabeth II's death.
This outlined the events and schedule after her passing, and Operation Menai Bridge will do the same for King Charles III.
What happens when King Charles III dies?
When King Charles dies, Prince William will immediately take the throne as the next monarch of the UK.
There is always the chance King Charles may wish to abdicate before this, though he will likely serve his tenure as until his death, just like the Queen did.

It would see the UK thrown back into a national period of mourning again, along with more alternations being made to money, stamps, flags and any royal insignias, just like what is happening now.
William’s son, Prince George, will be the next in line for the throne and will likely take on the title of Prince of Wales, just as his father has done.
What is the line of succession after Charles?
The Royal line of succession has remained relatively the same, only each member of the family has moved up in the order.
As stated on Royal.uk, the new line of succession is as follows:
- Prince William, The Prince of Wales
- Prince George of Wales
- Princess Charlotte of Wales
- Prince Louis of Wales
- Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex
- Prince Archie Mountbatten-Windsor
- Princess Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor
- Prince Andrew, The Duke of York
- Princess Beatrice, Mrs. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi
- Miss Sienna Mapelli Mozzi
- Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank
- Master August Brooksbank
- The Earl of Wessex
- Viscount Severn
- The Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor
- The Princess Royal
- Mr. Peter Phillips
- Miss Savannah Phillips
- Miss Isla Phillips
- Mrs. Michael Tindall
- Miss Mia Tindall
- Miss Lena Tindall
- Master Lucas Tindall
By the time Prince George is old enough to take the throne, he may even have children of his own, meaning Prince Harry’s fifth position will go down further.
The same is true for the Prince Charlotte, who will remain ahead of Prince Harry even in the unlikely event Prince George doesn’t take the throne after their father, Prince William.
The Royal line of succession is continually evolving as prominent members of the Royal Family have children.
