Locals in Cornwall left baffled at ‘idiot’ tourists parking their cars on popular beach amid claims it happens at least ONCE a week
- Cars regularly ignore signs and park on popular spot Towan beach in Newquay
Cornish locals are baffled by tourists ‘without common sense’ who park their cars on a beach.
In the latest instance of bizarre parking on Towan Beach, Newquay, a white car drove onto the popular sunbathing spot on Thursday.
The car was pictured parked alongside people enjoying the warm spell by the coast.
The beach is directly accessible to vehicles via a narrow lane, but cars are supposed to make use of nearby car parks or streets rather than stopping on the sand.
One shot shows the Mercedes left next to a group of children playing in the sand, before being turned back by a lifeguard.

One image even showed a man at the wheel of the car

Located close to Newquay town centre, the popular stretch of sand was one of the locations used for the Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour album in 1967.
‘People were shocked,’ said Kevin Harmer.
‘The car drove onto the beach [and the] lifeguard announced no driving on the beach.
‘[The] lifeguard went and spoke to him, he turned around and drove away with no problems.
‘We just get used to it.’, he added, describing it as ‘just another day at the office’.
It comes following other reports of cars getting stuck on beaches in Cornwall – including Towan.
Earlier this month, a local man was left laughing after spotting three cars stranded on a Cornish beach, while declaring ‘idiot summer’ had begun.
Connor Duffy, 33, a chef from Newquay, Cornwall, was baffled after spotting the vehicles drive onto Towan beach.
Despite there being plenty of parking spots and carparks around Newquay, the trio decided to drive their cars right onto the beach – and soon needed assistance.
‘They all drove down together, didn’t look like they knew each other as they were all separate cars,’ said Connor, from Newquay.

Earlier this summer, three cars got stuck on the beach and required two trucks to help them get out
He added: ‘They then had to get two RNLI trucks to leave their posts of life guarding to come and sort them out.
‘They had to be pulled out by locals as no tractors could be called in.
‘Then they had to clear the ramp as they each took turns at speeding up the beach and onto the ramp without getting stuck again.
‘Lifeguards tried to sort it as quickly as possible and did so.
‘Just shows common sense isn’t really that common.’
He said that such inconsiderate parking now happens every week, with tourists regularly ignoring signs telling them not to do so.
