A man who beat, strangled and violently raped a woman in a London alleyway outside the Tower of London on New Years Day has been jailed for six years.
Awet Solomon, 24, of West Drayton, set upon his victim near Whitechapel High Street in the early hours of the morning after witnessing her leaving a bus.
Solomon dragged his victim into an alleyway where he assaulted and raped her.
He was located by police 36 hours after the crime and charged.
Yesterday, Solomon was sentenced to six years and nine months at Inner London Crown Court after pleading guilty to rape, strangulation and actual bodily harm.

Commenting on the case, Detective Superintendent Richard Waight, of the City of London Police, said: ‘I would like to thank the victim for showing tremendous courage and strength to come forward to report such an abhorrent incident and in supporting this investigation.
‘City of London Police take allegations of rape and sexual offences extremely seriously and we investigate them with the utmost sensitivity.
