Man and woman in their 20s are killed in horror A2 crash in Kent after their BMW flipped onto its roof as police launch probe into their deaths

A man and women in their 20s were killed in a horror A2 crash near Dartford in Kent this morning after their BMW flipped into its roof, with police launching a probe into their deaths. 

They were travelling in a black BMW M3 on the A2 towards the slip road for Dartford Heath when the car left the carriageway and overturned at around 10.30 this morning.

Kent Police say the man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the car was taken to a London hospital with serious injuries. 

Emergency crews were called to the scene and the road was closed in both directions while an investigation was launched.

Officers put a large blue police tent up in the central reservation of the busy road. 

Kent Police is carrying out enquiries and appealing to anyone who saw what happened to come forward.

The A2 has been closed all day in both directions, with National Highways saying it is ‘likely to be closed until later tonight’.   

‘The A2 in Kent is currently closed in both directions between A223 Bexley and A282/M25 due to a serious multi-vehicle collision,’ National Highways: South East tweeted.

‘Emergency Services and Kent Police are currently on scene. Air Ambulance is also in attendance.’

Drivers described seeing a car on its roof and there being ‘gridlock’ in both directions on the A2 following the incident.

Officers attended the scene along with South East Coast Ambulance Service, Kent Fire and Rescue Service and the air ambulance.

A Kent Police spokesman said: ‘Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is carrying out enquiries and officers are appealing to anyone who saw what happened, or has relevant dashcam footage, to come forward.

‘In particular, investigators would like to speak to anybody who saw the vehicle travelling along the coastbound carriageway of the A2 from Bexley towards Dartford Heath prior to the collision.’
