Police have arrested a man following a fatal shooting in the Geelong suburb of Whittington on Monday night.
Paramedics were called to a property on Boundary Road in Whittington, a residential suburb of Geelong, following reports a man had been shot at 7.20pm.
The 31-year-old Whittington man was unable to be revived and died at the scene.
Police arrested a 39-year-old Whittington man in Leopold just before 6am and were interviewing him on Tuesday morning.
Police say the men are known to each other.
A crime scene was set up and the homicide squad travelled to Geelong on Monday night.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the circumstances surrounding the incident were still being established, but "at this early stage it’s believed the parties are known to one another".
"Detectives have a number of follow-up inquiries to make in relation to those involved," she said.
Locals reported hearing a police helicopter circling overhead for several hours following the incident as police searched for the alleged offender.
