Melania to skip summits with President Trump

WASHINGTON — Melania Trump won’t be accompanying President Trump on his two upcoming foreign trips, the first lady’s spokeswoman told ABC News Sunday.

The president heads to the G7 summit on Friday in La Malbaie, Canada. Then his on-again, off-again Singapore summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is on again and scheduled to take place June 12.

The first lady hasn’t been seen publicly since May 10. Four days later the White House told reporters that she was in the hospital at Walter Reed Medical Center after undergoing a “successful” kidney procedure for a “benign” condition.

“Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney issue. She will likely remain there for the duration of the week,” he office said at the time. “The First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere.”

Melania Trump came home six days later, on a Saturday, but her arrival wasn’t witnessed by reporters on site.

While the president has traveled since — to Tennessee, to Texas and this weekend to Camp David — Melania hasn’t been seen at his side.

The first lady’s spokeswoman put out a statement last week saying “she has had several meetings internally with staff, and will continue to do so this week.

“We are focused on her initiatives, and also some longer-term planning for events such as the congressional picnic and 4th of July,” spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham told media outlets.

The first lady also dashed off a tweet.

“I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I’m doing. Rest assured, I’m here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great & working hard on behalf of children & the American people,” Melania Trump wrote.

A CNBC reporter working at the White House last week noted on Twitter that he saw the first lady walking with her aides in the West Wing. She was wearing sunglasses.
