The First Lady took to Twitter to provide followers with an update on how the presidential home will look over the festive season. She said there will be a huge 18.5-foot Fraser Fir tree on display, which will arrive next week.

The First Lady said: “Since 1966, the arrival of the White House Christmas Tree has become an iconic holiday tradition.

“This year’s tree, a lovely 18 ½ foot Fraser Fir from Dan and Bryan Trees of West Virginia, will arrive tomorrow at the White House North Portico.”

However, followers have criticised the First Lady for comments she allegedly made about having to decorate the White House in previous years.

In conversations that were secretly recorded by Ms Trump’s former friend Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, the First Lady bemoaned the fact she was tasked with the job.

She appears to say on the recording, released earlier this year: “I’m working … my ass off on the Christmas stuff, that you know, who gives a f— about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?”

As a result, followers responded with comments such as: “I thought you hated Christmas decorating.”

Another made reference to the fact her husband Donald Trump is refusing to concede the election to rival Joe Biden.

They said: “Another tradition is when the president loses the election, he gives a concession speech and starts the transition to the new government.”

Another furious follower told the First Lady to “just start packing” as the Trump family is due to leave the presidential home in January.

It comes as Mr Trump continues to contest the result of the US election vote in several states.

The president maintains there have been “massive numbers of fraudulent ballots”.

His campaign has launched legal action to investigate this, though no evidence has yet been found.

Currently, Joe Biden, Mr Trump’s Democrat Party rival, is due to take control of the White House on January 20 next year, when he is inaugurated.

Similarly, the title of First Lady will pass over to Joe Biden’s wife Jill.

Meanwhile, other social media users were more supportive of Ms Trump. One said of the decorations: “I can’t wait to see them! I bet they will be elegant.”

One posted: “Thank you for your dedication to the American people. Your work to support children and families via Be Best is not unnoticed.”

Another said: “It’s so sad to see all the comments below. Why do we have to bully like this?”

Ms Trump has publicly been silent on the US election following Joe Biden’s electoral college win.

Around the time US media reported he had won, Ms Trump tweeted: “The American people deserve fair elections. Every legal – not illegal – vote should be counted.”
