This is the disgusting moment a fishmonger repeatedly throws frozen seafood down onto the pavement outside an East London shop.

A shocked observer filmed the staff member throwing the seafood onto the dirty pavement outside the back entrance to Moon Fish – located at Barking Market on East Street.

The video of the fishmonger went viral as social media users reacted in disgust.

Barking and Dagenham council say they are investigating the matter and their hygiene team will be visiting Moon Fish today.

A shocked observer filmed the staff member throwing the seafood onto the dirty pavement outside the back entrance to Moon Fish – located at Barking Market on East Street

The man filming the fishmonger is heard saying:  ‘Look at that. Moon Fish – that is what he does with your meat. Breaks it up on the floor.

‘That’s going in your bellies ladies and gentlemen.’

Barking and Dagenham Borough Council said they are aware of the video and their hygiene team is investigating the matter ‘urgently’.

The council said they are paying a visit to the shop today.

A council spokesperson said: ‘We are aware of a video circulating on social media appearing to show a local business engaging in unhygienic food practices. 

‘Our Food Hygiene Team are currently investigating the matter urgently and have been in contact with the business.’

 After the video was posted on YouTube, TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) social media users reacted in horror.

 One user commented: ‘Why not just run it under a tap and soak it? Vile. It makes you not want to buy anything.’

Another asked: ‘Did he think no one was going to see him dashing fish on the curb?’ 

Meanwhile some social media users joked about the video, with one saying: ‘Doesn’t look like a place you should be buying fish from.’

Others commented on the video with puns, with one saying: ‘This is barking mad’ and another added: ‘When I said I want it battered I didn’t mean like that.’

Moon Fish could not be reached for comment.
