A "SADISTIC" farmer who dragged his husky along the ground tied to his car before dumping it to die was arrested in the barber's chair.

Kim Norman Rendall, 65, was caught by officers a short time after the horrific act, as he sat for a haircut and cup of tea with his trainers still covered in blood.

Rendall avoided jail with a suspended sentence on Tuesday at Bristol Crown Court after a shocking video emerged of him dragging the dog as it was “scrabbling to try and stay up” in “complete distress”.

The nine-year-old white husky, Daisy, was left with open wounds after the brutal incident near Bath on April 17 and had to be euthanised by vets.

Motorists had seen the dog being dragged behind the red Nissan Micra through the town of High Littleton and notified police.

New video shows the farmer being arrested soon after on suspicion of animal cruelty while in the barber's chair getting a haircut from his sister.

The short 14-second clip shows a frizzy-haired Rendall with a purple hairdressing cape tied around his shoulders.

Rendall was rude and aggressive to officers and refused to tell them where the pooch was as they desperately tried to find and save her.

Officers found Daisy's blood on his trainers.

The farmer was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered to do 300 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £5k costs and given a 20-year disqualification from having or keeping animals with the exception of cattle, and fish.

Rendall tried to defend himself by putting his actions down to "social awkwardness".

But, Judge Michael Longman dismissed the excuse as not beginning to "explain or mitigate your behaviour" and had said Rendall had shown an "arrogant disdain" toward the dog.

Judge Longman said obstructing the police who were trying to get medical help for the dog as '"truly dreadful".

"I don't believe that you were devastated. You showed a deliberate disregard for Daisy's welfare in failing to seek treatment."

Rendall had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to two counts of causing the unnecessary suffering of an animal contrary to the Animal Welfare Act.

Dashcam footage released by the RSPCA showed Daisy “bouncing” along the road.

Jessica Kelly, who was driving behind Rendall who was driving at an average 11mph, said in a witness statement: “I was screaming, panicking and desperately trying to get the man to stop.

“I was horrified by the blood on the road and the length of time it went on.”

Distressed locals stopped and confronted him while Daisy bled onto the road and attempted to stand up.

Prosecutors said he drove for around 55 seconds – covering a distance of appoximately 200 metres before putting her into a bin and then into the car boot.

The dog was left bleeding heavily with its skin ripped from its paws and hind legs.

18 police officers and a drone unit were deployed to locate Daisy, in a two-and-a-half-hour hunt in the Somerset countryside.

She was eventually located in a cow barn in Gossard Lane, High Littleton.

Vets attempted to save the dog's life but due to terrible pain she was put down nine days later.

PC Natalie Cosgrove described Daisy's injuries as "the worst thing I have ever seen" and it made her "feel physically sick".

"I felt shocked, I couldn't sleep and I cried… I hugged my own dog crying in sympathy for Daisy", she told the court previously in a victim person statement.

"This is one of those jobs that will haunt me forever."

Lindi Meyer, prosecuting for the RSPCA, told how Rendall was reported to cops who went to his nearby home and found him having a cup of tea and getting his haircut by his sister.

He “sadistically” refused to tell officers where the dog was and lied by saying it was in the back of his car.
