My husband's Elf on the Shelf prank nearly burned down our house

My husband’s Elf on the Shelf prank nearly burned down our house and melted its face completely off – now I’m warning other parents

  • Maddie, aka @maddieeeee311, re-posted a popular viral video last month
  • Her Elf on the Shelf was ruined after it fell against a chandelier lightbulb
  • The original clip of her elf received more than 44 million views

One Elf on the Shelf did not turn out to be a good spy surveilling household members looking to get a sneak peek at their Christmas presents thanks to a chandelier.

Maddie, aka @maddieeeee311, re-posted a viral TikTok video she took last year of her Elf on the Shelf on November 26 that had its face nearly burned off after it fell on a light bulb.

‘Reuploading my elf on the shelf video for you guys in case you need any ideas this year,’ she wrote in the caption about the elf, which was placed on the chandelier by her husband.

The original video she posted last December, which showed how dangerous it could be when one’s husband is put in charge of Elf on the Shelf placement, received more than 44 million views.

‘At least it didn’t start a fire,’ Maddie wrote in the caption of the original video.

The original video she posted last December has received over 44 million views and counting ever since it was uploaded

TikTokers have not stopped commenting on Maddie’s video since she reposted it last November.

Most of them find the video hilarious even though the elf clearly ‘lost his magic,’ according to one user.

Christmas lore says that anyone who touches the elf with one finger could make the character lose its magic, and if an elf loses its magic, they’ll be unable to fly back to the North Pole to inform Santa of what is happening in the household.

Another user even compared her Elf on the Shelf to Batman’s Harvey Dent, who infamously had half of his face horribly disfigured thus prompting his alter ego: Two Face.

TikTok users have not stopped commenting on her month-old video re-post with thoughts on how funny the video is

Some TikTokers have also admitted that similar incidents happened with their elves on shelves.

The Christmas toys can actually burn easily in heat, and the Dublin Fire Brigade warned elf on the shelf owners back in 2017 on X (formerly Twitter).

‘Close one for this #ElfOnAShelf after she ended up on a lamp. The householder had done the right thing & purchased one with a CE mark,’ fire brigade members wrote.

‘The Elf resisted heat for 40 minutes. Keep all decorations away from heat.’

According to Christmas lore, if an elf is touched by a human, it will lose its magic and will not be able to fly back to the North Pole to talk to Santa Claus

Tiktok is a wild place and I still don’t know how to use it. 😂

Some TikTok users were not nice to Maddie after freaking out over the lightbulbs that were used in the chandelier that ruined her Elf on the Shelf

Not everyone found the Elf on the Shelf video entertaining, based on comments  made by TikTokers back in 2022.

Maddie posted a TikTok video on February 6 confirming the strange and hurtful comments she received on the video after it went viral.

The user found out from her hairdresser that TikTokers can make stitches – a video that includes clips or scenes from a separate post.

However, once Maddie looked at her comments, she was seemingly more annoyed than sad at what other users wrote and had no interest in watching anything else.

‘I don’t wanna look at your f****** stitches because you were so f****** mean to me in those f****** comments about a f****** lightbulb,’ she stated.

Maddie continued by saying that users were angry at the type of lightbulbs she used and responded to aggressive comments allegedly made by users named Devon and Kyle.
