Nine women are spiked with date rape ‘knockout drops’ at event hosted by German chancellor Olaf Scholz

  • Almost a thousand people attended the SDP event hosted in the German capital
  • The alarm was raised by a woman, 21, who was left unable to remember the party
  • Social Democratic Party members ‘furious’ this could happen at an SDP event

Nine women were spiked at the German chancellor’s event in Berlin with ‘knockout drops’ which left them with memory loss, feeling dizzy and unwell.

German Parliament Police are investigating the Social Democratic Party’s summer party which took place on Wednesday last week just before the Bundestag went to summer recess.

Almost a thousand people, as well as chancellor Olaf Scholz and other MPs, were in attendance to the party held in a Tipi tent at the Chancellery in Berlin.

The alarm was raised by a 21-year-old woman, who ate food and consumed non-alcoholic drinks at the event. By Saturday morning another four guests reported similar symptoms of dizziness, feeling unwell and unable to remember the evening.

She has been tested for toxic substances. Police have said they were awaiting test results before ‘coming to any conclusions’.

Members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) were told that some guests were spiked with a liquid drug called ‘knockout drops’ which can be mixed into food or drink.

German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel revealed that SDP parliamentary leader told colleagues in a letter following the revelations: ‘At our summer party there were obviously attacks on colleagues with “knockout drops”.

‘This is an outrageous event, which we immediately reported to the Bundestag police.’

Co-leader Lars Klingbeil told German television channel Welt that he was ‘furious’ ‘something like this could happen at an event’ organised by SDP, adding that the party’s leadership was cooperating with Bundestag police and authorities.

He said he hopes ‘the perpetrator or perpetrators can be caught and then brought to account’.

The parliamentary chief whip of SDP, Katja Mast, said the party was ‘appalled’ by the incident and is intending to ‘do everything in our power to clear it up’. She added: ‘I recommend everyone who is affected to report this.’
