FURIOUS homeowners in a picturesque seaside town have slammed their council for making a major change.
In Teignbridge, Devon, 300 angry residents have joined together and launched a revolt after the local authorities "forced" a new policy on them.
A car park, which had been free to use for years, will now come at a cost.
And the new rates, at Fore Street Car Park, have sparked traffic chaos and parking hell in the narrow streets.
Fed-up residents and tourists abandon their cars at the side of the road in the search for free parking, as reported by DevonLive.
Speaking at a Teignbridge committee, Cllr Jane Taylor of South Devon Alliance, Kerswell with Coombe, said: "The community and the parish council felt that the whole issue was being forced upon them.

“As a result of trying to get some income for Teignbridge there have been some unforeseen consequences.
“A lot of those residents can’t afford to pay the fees that are being asked."
The disappointed councillor also claimed local businesses are suffering due to the new parking fee.
"Teignbridge should not be doing things to people, it should be doing things for people, and in this case we are not," she added.

Council leader Martin Wrigley told the meeting that residents needed "something better" and warned of other car parks going down the same route.
"What has happened here is certainly not what a community-powered council does," he said.
A Teignbridge Council spokesperson said: "Council leader Martin Wrigley has said he will meet the residents to discuss the issues raised by them.
“The car park was switched to pay and display in April 2022, bringing it into line with other council owned car parks across the district.
"The cost of a full day’s parking is £1.40 and its size makes it impractical to have permits.
“The change was made as it was unfair on residents in other parts of the district that they were effectively subsidising motorists parking for free in the Fore Street car park”.
This comes as fuming residents in other seaside towns across the UK hit back at their council.
Locals in Hove, Sussex said their home is being ruined by an "ugly" new council-backed attraction that they say looks like elephant dung.
They had to check whether it was an April Fool's joke when the unusual structure turned up.
Elsewhere, in Norfolk, homeowners say their village is going to be ruined as it's about to get overcrowded with horrific parking problems.
Hunstanton residents say the council is to blame, after giving plans to turn a hotel into flats the green light despite opposition.
Meanwhile, in Dorset, residents have likened their town to a jungle and are fed-up with overgrown pavements.
They have slammed their "pathetic" council for failing to maintain the streets properly and putting people at risk.
