Our town is like living in a SAW film… gangs chopped a man’s hand off and even our local is nicknamed the Butcher's Arms | The Sun

HORRIFIED residents compared their town to a Saw film after a gang chopped a man’s hand off in a pub’s smoking area.

They said youngsters have also been threatened with knives for not joining gangs while other schoolkids have almost had fingers cut off for getting caught with drugs.

It comes amid increased knife crime in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. In September, schoolboy Khayri Mclean, 15, was stabbed to death outside his school.

In one attack, a hooded knifeman was filmed stabbing his victim with a 12ins bread knife in the street in broad daylight.

Two balaclava-clad teens also ran off laughing from the Deighton Working Men's Club, nicknamed the Butcher’s Arms, after they chopped off their victim's hand.

Another gang threatened to cut off a 14-year-old boy’s fingers with pliers when he was caught delivering drugs, including wraps of heroin for as little as £5.

A student, 17, said: “They scared the hell out of him. He was just a kid.”

Boy, 15, rushed to hospital after stabbing on quiet street, as lad, 16, held

A dad-of-two who saw the pub machete attack in the Working Men's Club, told The Sun: "The man was screaming when the two boys in balaclavas chopped him up.

"It was horrible – like something out of that Saw horror film. Some people put it in a bucket to try and save it. It was barbaric.

"People get attacked with baseball bats and a car bomb went off in the next street where I live.

"It was a huge bang. That followed another machete attack at the pub. It's crazy. You don't want your kids going out at night.”

Just a mile down the road a huge floral tribute still lays at the spot where a 15-year-old schoolboy was stabbed to death after leaving class at North Huddersfield Trust School.

Khayri Mclean died after being pinned down and stabbed in a crime which shocked the nation.

A teacher frantically performed CPR in a bid to save him but Khayri tragically died after being rushed to hospital.

Messages have been written on the concrete next to the floral tributes including one which said: 'Rest in peace Angel' as well as 'love you' and one saying he was the 'best boyfriend'.

His tearful girlfriend Shyana James, 16, said her heart shattered when she heard he died.

Shyana James said he was "a really nice boy" and said: "I can't think of any reason why someone would do this to him."

It was horrible – like something out of that Saw horror film. Some people put it in a bucket to try and save it. It was barbaric.

Just days after he was killed, pupils at King James's School were forced inside by armed intruders wearing balaclavas on the playing fields.

Khayri was killed a little over three weeks ago before the 30-year-old had his hand chopped off.

A 19-year old man also nearly suffered the same fate as his hand almost sliced off in a machete close to Deighton WMC in February.

This is also when a car nearby was firebombed.

Only a few months earlier a 26-year-old man was ambushed outside the WMC by a mob armed with baseball bats.

The victim was slashed with his own machete as he desperately tried to defend himself.

GANG HELL

This area of Huddersfield is controlled by the notorious gang, the brutal BBD gang. It is named after the districts of Bradley, Brackenhall and Deighton.

Two years ago, 16 members of the gang and their associates were jailed for a total of nearly 80 years for running a county lines operation from Huddersfield to Blackpool in Lancashire.

They used "runners" as young as 14 to deliver the drugs and to collect money. One boy was found with £850 in cash, 12 wraps of heroin and 51 wraps of crack in a police raid.

Police think there are half a dozen gangs fighting for the control of the drug trade in the former mill town.

West Yorkshire had the highest crime rate — 113 crimes per 1,000 people — of any county across England, Wales and Northern Ireland last year.

In Huddersfield, 18,652 crimes were committed in the year to July. Among these, were 8,388 crimes of violence and sexual offences, 562 drug offences and 181 for possession of weapons.

Recently a man in his 20s had to have part of his leg amputated after another machete attack and a 12-year-old boy was left with 25 pellets lodged in his head after being blasted with a shotgun.

Last month a video showed a man dressed from head-to-toe in black including latex gloves as he stabbed a man with a 12-inch knife outside St Peter's Church.

Church bell ringing could be heard in the background.

Outside Deighton WMC, a barmaid dragging on a cigarette did not want to talk about the pub's reputation.

She said: "I'm not saying anything. We get too much bad publicity – we don't deserve it."
