Forget diets and the gym. Next year the over-50s are opting for more adventurous resolutions, as research reveals an ultimate bucket list for 2023.

Older Britons are planning to swap predictable New Year’s resolutions for more exciting, life-affirming ones.

According to research by Ourtime, a dating service for over-50s, pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is a common theme, such as booking the trip of a lifetime (27 per cent), getting a tattoo (9 per cent) or even having a threesome (9 per cent).

And 55 per cent agree that the classic New Year’s resolutions are boring, with 49 per cent planning on making more interesting ones in 2023.

The majority of over-50s (62 per cent) say they like a challenge, with 45 per cent believing a sense of adventure is essential to feeling young.

Booking a trip of a lifetime (27 per cent), going on a cruise (20 per cent), not sweating the small stuff (18 per cent), and going on a wine tour (14 per cent) all feature highly in the top resolutions for older Brits.

A sixth (14 per cent) will be renovating their home, while more one in ten (12 per cent) are planning to relocate to the country, possibly to write their first novel (12 per cent), practice meditation (10 per cent) or work to become self-sufficient (10 per cent).

Getting a tattoo (nine per cent), having a threesome (nine per cent), meeting up with a teenage crush (eight per cent), quitting their job and retraining (seven per cent) and protesting for something they believe in (seven per cent) also make an appearance on the list of the ultimate New Year’s resolutions for British over fifties.

Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is a common theme for those polled with five percent admitting they will be trying stand-up comedy, while one in 20 are determined to learn to surf. A further five per cent want to start sailing and have promised themselves they will complete a marathon.

One in twenty (seven per cent) will be taking part in a seance, while six per cent are going to dye their hair pink and try out a nude life drawing class. A further one in 20 will be helping themselves feel sexy in new lingerie.

And almost one in twenty (three per cent) say they will be taking daily ice baths.

Joanna Pons of Ourtime, a dating service dedicated to singles over 50, which conducted the research, said: ‘It’s great to see that Brits over 50 are looking to try out new things in 2023 and are ditching traditional New Year’s resolutions for more life affirming ones such as writing a novel, finding a partner, trying stand-up and practising mediation.’
