PIERS Morgan has arrived in Kyiv as he joins the First Lady of Ukraine for a summit meeting to help shine a light on the toll of Russia's invasion.

The Talk TV host shared his morning view of Ukraine's capital on social media before turning his attention to today's summit.

Piers revealed how "honoured" he felt to be involved in the summit with Olena Zelenska, the wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The TV personality said: "I was honoured to be invited by First Lady Olena Zelenska to co-moderate The Second Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen in Kyiv, which will shine a vital global spotlight on the impact of this appalling war on Ukraine and its people, and on how the country will rebuild better and stronger once it is over.

"It's crucial the world doesn't forget what's happening here or the terrible toll the war is taking on all Ukrainians".

And he added on Twitter: "Join us online from around the world later today as we shine a light on Ukraine and its war-torn people."

The First Lady said in a previous statement that she was inviting people to "join forces" to "win the battle for a decent life for Ukrainian people and learn lessons to overcome possible future world crises".

The summit is due to be broadcast to more than 20 countries around the world, with the stream set to go live in just over three hours.

It will cover various issues caused by the war such as forced migration, the suffering of children and women, and the restoration of physical and mental health.

Ukraine's forces have been battling bravely against the Kremlin invasion for months now despite sickening bombardments on civilian targets.

Vladimir Putin's troops have been surprised by the stoic resistance of the Ukrainians with US officials estimating that Russian casualties have reached around 15,000 with perhaps 45,000 wounded.

The Kyiv summit official page states that The Second Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen is designed to once again draw the world's attention to the war.

It adds: "The main theme of this year's event will be man. After all, it is the preservation and restoration of human capital that is the key to the successful reconstruction of the country.

"At the same time, the Summit is not only about Ukraine.

"It is about every country in the world that has already felt or may feel the impact of war and other global crises."

The first Kyiv Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen took place in Kyiv on August 23.
