Police launch murder probe after 19-year-old man who was knifed to death in broad daylight became the eighth teen stabbing fatality in London this year

Police have launched a murder probe after a 19-year-old man was knifed to death in broad daylight in London today making him the eighth teen stabbing fatality of 2021. 

Officers were called to the scene at 1.54pm on Penhurst Road in Tottenham today after two teenagers were stabbed and a third was injured. 

The 19-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene while another teen, 18, was treated for stab wounds and taken to hospital.

His condition is not life threatening. The third victim, another 18-year-old boy, was treated for minor injuries.

Next of kin have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers.

A post-mortem will be carried out in due course and no arrests have been made yet. 

A crime scene remains in place and enquiries are continuing.

It comes after an 18-year-old was knifed to death in the street in south-east London on Saturday. 

Police were called at approximately just after 5.30pm to reports of a fight in Edington Road, Abbey Wood.

Next of kin have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers

A post-mortem will be carried out in due course and no arrests have been made yet. A crime scene remains in place and enquiries are continuing

Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and found an 18-year-old man with a stab injury to his chest. 

The latest killings mean the teenage murder rate in the capital is more than double what it was at the same stage last year.

The latest wave of teenage knife crime began when 17-year-old student Anas Mezenner was fatally knifed in Tottenham, north London, on Wednesday January 20.

Since then there has been an average of one teenager stabbed to death in the capital every six-and-a-half days.

Detective Sergeant Michael Hartley said: ‘A young man has lost his life in the most tragic circumstances and officers will work round the clock to bring those responsible to justice.

‘We are still in the early stages of the investigation and I would ask anybody who was in the area yesterday evening – or who has information about the attack – to contact us immediately.’

There have been no arrests.

2. Jan 25: Romario Opia, 15, stabbed to death in Archway.

3. Feb 11: Hani Solomon, 19, stabbed to death outside Parsons Green tube station. Two teenagers charged with murder.

4. Feb 19. Drekwon Patterson, 16, died in hospital after being stabbed repeatedly in Wembley the previous evening.

5. Feb 26: Ahmed Beker, 19, stabbed to death on Paddington Green just a short distance from where his cousin Yousef, 17, was fatally knifed 18 months earlier.

6. March 3: Music student Tai O’Donnell, 19, stabbed to death in Croydon.

7. March 6: Teenager, 18, stabbed to death in Abbey Wood.

8. March 8: Teenager, 19, stabbed to death in Tottenham. 

A record number of 29 teenagers were murdered in London in 2008, topping the previous worst toll of 27 in 2007.

A total of 26 teenagers were murdered in London in 2017, the most since 2008, 20 of whom were fatally stabbed. 

In 2018 a total of 24 teenagers were killed in the capital, 18 of them knifed to death. 

That figure rose to 25 in 2019, but fell to 17 last year.
