Redditors united in a viral thread about annoying phrases people say to them in an online vent session over the weekend.

One Redditor opened the can of worms on Saturday in a subsection of the social media platform, subbed Ask Reddit, with the open-ended question, ‘Which sentence is only used by annoying people?’

Users quickly flooded their answers and some shared extra insight on why they thought the sentences were bothersome.

‘”We are like family here,” by my bosses,’ one user commented.

Another added to the conversation: ‘My boss said that but followed it up with, “… and I f****** my family.”‘

‘I barely get along with my family I already have, why would I want another one,’ a user suggested.

As of Sunday, the Reddit threat had 13,000 comments.

Redditors thought back to the moments where their post-traumatic stress disorder began in school while complaining about the infamous saying, ‘May I go to the bathroom.’ 

One user shared, ‘After asking a teacher if you can go the bathroom: “I don’t know, can you?”‘ 

Another added to their experience, ‘I once asked, “May I go to the bathroom?’ not because I cared about grammar or etiquette, but because I knew this teacher would f****** try it. 

‘She replied, “I don’t know, CAN you?” She did it anyway, like she was just waiting to be an intentionally ignorant a****** who couldn’t  parse “Can I?”‘ 

Multiple Redditors weighed in on the contentious saying while being transparent about their past experiences.

‘I peed myself in third grade when the teacher wouldn’t let me go to the bathroom,’ one person wrote. ‘It wasn’t on purpose, I just really had to go that badly, but she was awful and if I knew she wouldn’t be our teacher after that I would’ve done it sooner.’

Another infamous saying repeated various times was, ‘Are you going to get upset if I say this?’  

Psychologist Dr. Jayme Albin weighed in on the conversation and the narcissistic message behind the phrases. 

‘I’d say that overwhelmingly the statements are annoying because they have the underlying message of, “it’s all about me!”‘ Albin told Fox News Digital. 

‘And [those who say these things] are ignoring the other person’s feelings. They are “discounting” and being egocentric – having what I call a “narcissistic moment.”‘
