Poundland is set to open 12 new stores across the UK in the next few weeks – so is one opening near you?

  • The new are part of a huge expansion plan to relocate or open 50 new shops 
  • The scheme, set to be completed this year, will create about 800 new jobs  

Budget chain Poundland is opening 12 new stores in a fresh boom for Britain’s struggling high streets. 

The retailer has confirmed the dates of four new openings – with the rest of the stores set to open at some point in April.  

Among the new sites will be the chain’s Scottish flagship store in Crown Street, Glasgow, which will become the country’s largest branch at 18,380 square feet.  

The openings come as part of a wider plan to by the discount retailer to open or relocate 50 new shops by the end of the year. 

The branches will be opening across the high street, shopping centres and retail parks.

Up to 800 new jobs will be created as part of the firm’s huge expansion plan, which will see it opening half a million square feet of retail space.

  • East Dulwich, London – March 18
  • Dumbarton Road, Partick – March 25
  • Parkgate, Rotherham – March 31
  • Weston-super-Mare (due to open in April)
  • Burton-upon-Trent (due to open in April)
  • Castle Bromwich (due to open in April)
  • Widnes Retail Park (due to open in April)
  • Belfast Castlecourt (due to open in April)
  • Biggleswade (due to open in April)
  • Stafford (due to open in April)
  • Ipswich Copdock Retail Park (due to open in April)

Poundland chief operating officer Austin Cooke previously told MailOnline: ‘This investment in towns and cities up and down the country shows our commitment to bringing shoppers more choice and amazing value just when they need it the most.

‘Whether it’s daily essentials at a neighbourhood store or choosing from our PEP&CO seasonal clothing range to make Christmas extra special this year, we’re there to help our customers find ways to cope with the pressures on their budgets.’

Poundland opened 18 stores during October to December, including eight on December 10 alone – which the company hailed as ‘Super Saturday’. 

Poundland managing director Barry Williams previously told The Mirror: ‘We know how customers appreciate the effort we’ve made in the last few years to transform our offer, offering them more of what they want to buy, week-in, week-out.

‘That transformation means we have to step up our search for the best locations to bring the best of Poundland to customers across the UK and that’s precisely what we’ll do in 2023.’
