Priscilla Presley and Lisa Marie were ‘barely speaking’ prior to the latter’s death after she sided with her daughter’s ex-husband Michael Lockwood during a bitter custody battle over their twins.
Multiple sources told People that the mother, 77, and daughter, 54, were not on speaking terms prior to Lisa Marie’s death on January 12 from cardiac arrest, despite appearing at multiple events together, including the Elvis biopic.
Lisa Marie reportedly resented her mother for siding with her ex-husband Michael Lockwood, 61, as the pair battled it out for the custody of their twins Harper and Finley in 2016.
The former couple battled it out in court until October 2022 and the tension trickled down to Lisa Marie’s oldest daughter Riley Keough, 33, who’s currently locked in a legal battle with her grandmother over her mother’s will.

‘Riley was always on her mom’s side when it came to Michael,’ a source told People. ‘It bothered her that her grandmother and Michael flew to the funeral together.’
Priscilla also helped Michael wedge his way into the ceremony, despite her late daughter’s wishes.
‘Michael was not invited,’ a close friend of Lisa Marie told the magazine. ‘He came to Memphis under the pretense that he had to chaperone the twins – and he forced his way in with Priscilla’s help.
‘The last thing Lisa Marie would have wanted was for Michael to be there.’
During the custody battle in 2019, Lisa Marie filed an amendment to her living trust, making Riley and her late son Benjamin Keough her heirs, removing Priscilla and her former manager Barry Siegel as co-trustees. Her will contains the rights to the Graceland mansion and a 15 percent stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises.

Priscilla filed a petition to question the ‘authenticity and validity’ of the trust after she claimed Lisa Marie’s signature is ‘inconsistent.’ She filed the petition in a Los Angeles court just days after her daughter’s memorial service.
The grandmother of four also claimed she was not aware Lisa Marie had changed the trust in 2016 until after her daughter passed away.
If Priscilla’s petition prevails, she and Riley would be made co-trustees over Lisa Marie’s estate, but neither wants the other’s influence, a source said.
‘Priscilla doesn’t want Riley solely in charge, because then she has no say. Meanwhile, Riley doesn’t want Priscilla to butt in,’ a source told People.
‘It’s a very sad situation. Riley is shocked Priscilla is contesting the amendment,’ another source said.
‘They do not see eye to eye,’ another source said.
The pair are set to duke it out in court on April 13.
Lisa Marie, the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, left behind a rock-and-roll legacy — including a rocky financial path marked with losses and lawsuits over money.

Lisa Marie, a singer-songwriter like her father, wasn’t rich enough to make the Forbes list of highest-paid entertainers, while some celebrity websites even estimated that she may have had a negative net worth at her death.
The singer still owned Graceland through a trust, which will now be inherited by her children, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing a Graceland spokesperson.
A detailed glimpse of her financial situation emerged in 2018 when she sued Siegel claiming he had mismanaged her finances, resulting in her $100million trust dwindling to $14,000 in cash by 2016.
The lawsuit also claimed Lisa Marie had racked up $500,000 in credit card debt, according to Reuters.
Starting in 2005, Lisa Marie suffered an ’11-year odyssey to financial ruin,’ the lawsuit claimed.
‘Lisa has been damaged in an amount that has not yet been fully ascertained, but is believed to be in excess of $100 million.’
The suit followed her divorce from musician Michael Lockwood being finalized in 2021.
During the divorce proceedings, Lisa Marie claimed she was $16 million in debt, with most of that stemming from unpaid taxes, according to TMZ.

Priscilla blamed the root cause of her financial woes on a 2005 deal to sell an 85 percent stake in the Elvis Presley Estate (EPE) to CKX, an entertainment company that also owned the ‘American Idol’ television show.
She received $50 million plus stock in CKX, along with keeping a 15 percent interest in EPE, as well as the title to Graceland, the Associated Press reported at the time.
CKX was later sold to Apollo Global Management for $509million.
Lisa Marie’s suit claimed that Siegel put his own financial interests ahead of her own, alleging he bought a $9 million English home using the trust’s money.
Meanwhile, Siegel countered in his own lawsuit that Lisa Marie’s financial problems were due to her own missteps. The litigation claimed she had ‘twice squandered’ her inheritance and blamed her ‘spendthrift ways,’ Reuters said.
But Lisa Marie, who was nine when her father died, remained the sole owner of Graceland and her 15 percent stake in EPE likely continues to generate a steady income.
