Terrifying moment helicopter crashes at Brazilian park before slum residents dragged pilot and mechanic from wreckage

Dramatic video footage shows the harrowing moment a helicopter crashed at a park in Brazil before residents from a slum rushed and pulled out the pilot and a passenger from the wreckage.
The São Paulo Military Police said the aircraft was out on a flight test after scheduled maintenance service was completed at Congonhas Airport on Wednesday.
The helicopter took off from the airport at 10.46am and crashed at 10.53am.
Residents could be seen pulling out the pilot, Lucas Pereira, 51, and Jorge Viana, 38, out of the helicopters and carrying them away.
Pereira was airlifted to Das Clinicas Hospital, where he was treated for a head injury. Viana was rushed to Jabaquara Hospital, where he was diagnosed with fractures in both legs.
Both men were still hospitalized as of Thursday, according to Brazilian news outlet G1.

One of the videos that were shared on social media showed a Good Samaritan performing CPR on one of the individuals on the lawn at Rocinha Park.
Fabio Silva told TV Globo that he was walking his dog when he saw the pilot divert the helicopter away from favela.
‘Suddenly the helicopter came around and around. It was going to fall into the favela, but the pilot swerved and [it] fell on its beak,’ Silva said.

Fuel was leaking when he and other residents sprung into action and rescued Pereira and Viana.
‘We took the occupants from being burned to death,’ he said. ‘We didn’t think about our lives, we just wanted to get them out.’
Fernando da Silva said Pereira was unconscious when he pulled him out of the wreckage.
‘I said, ‘If it explodes, it explodes. So, I said to try to get them out both out,’ da Silva told TV Globo.
The Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents is investigating the cause of the accident. The single-engine helicopter was built in 2013 and can carry up to six passengers.
