Russia plans new Pacific fleet of submarines to carry terrifying Poseidon nukes ‘capable of unleashing 1,000ft-high radioactive tsunamis’

Russia is planning to launch a new Pacific fleet of submarines that will carry Vladimir Putin’s lethal Poseidon nuclear missiles as early as next year. 

Since the Russian despot invaded Ukraine, Putin’s propagandists have continued to threaten the West with a nuclear holocaust – and the rhetoric has continued to escalate in recent months. 

They claim the Poseidon torpedoes are capable of causing 1,000ft radioactive tsunamis – and while international military experts rebuff this, they admit that the terrifying nukes could destroy the UK’s coastal cities, cause radioactive floods and kill millions of people in London.

According to Russia’s TASS news agency, the division of submarines to carry these underwater doomsday torpedoes could be ready to form by the end of 2024 or in the first half of 2025.

Moscow said in January that it had produced the first set of the devastating Poseidon weapons – a blend of torpedo and drone – four years after Putin announced the fundamentally new type of strategic nuclear weapon, confirming it would have its own nuclear power supply.

In late March, Russia said that the coastal infrastructure for the submarines that would carry the Poseidon torpedoes will be finished on the Kamchatka Peninsula, where Russia’s Pacific Fleet’s ballistic nuclear missile submarine base is located.

What is Russia’s nuclear armed Poseidon torpedo?

Poseidon is a Russian nuclear weapon currently in development that is a blend of torpedo and drone.

Moscow claims it is unstoppable by current nuclear defences, and could be used to destroy coastal cities or blow up aircraft carriers and their battle groups.

Poseidon is made up of a 65ft tube that is almost 6ft in diameter which can be carried by specially adapted submarines and launched like a torpedo.

Once launched, it acts like a drone and can be remotely guided to its target.

The tube is though to contain a nuclear reactor theoretically giving the drone an unlimited range if traveling on a pre-set course to its target.

In order for an operator to control the drone, it would have to stay within range of some kind of control tower.

Poseidon is thought to be capable of traveling up to 115mph which would give it the ability to out-run any torpedoes that might be used to destroy it.

It is also thought to be able to dive to 1km, which would also put it out of range of current torpedoes. 

‘The decision to form a division of special-purpose nuclear submarines in Kamchatka has been made,’ TASS cited an unidentified defence source as saying. 

‘We are talking about December 2024 or the first half of 2025.’

Russia has claimed that the lethal Poseidon weapons – made up of a 65ft tube that is almost 6ft in diameter –  would be unable to be stopped by current nuclear defences.

Last month, retired Russian general Yevgeny Buzhinsky called for attacks on Britain with the underwater missile, as he claimed Britain ‘will definitely not exist’ if Moscow unleashed the wrath of the nuclear missile. 

Vladimir Solovyov, known as ‘Putin’s voice’, smirked as he said that if the Poseidon underwater drone hit Britain, there would be a ‘tsunami’.

‘[If NATO] sends troops, it will end up with [us using] Poseidon, of course, and a tsunami. And 300 metre [985ft] high waves,’ Buzhinsky said on Russian state TV channel Rossiya 1.

Solovyov interjected: ‘Great Britain will not exist then.’ Buzhinsky, 72, agreed and insisted: ‘Britain will definitely not exist.’

Speaking about the potential impact of the missiles, Professor Andrew Futter, a University of Leicester academic and nuclear weapons expert, previously told MailOnline: ‘If the Poseidon is armed a large megaton warhead it would undoubtedly cause damage.

‘If a large nuclear device were detonated in or near that Thames estuary, the tide in the Thames could surge towards buildings and millions of people could potentially die in the blast. 

‘There would be a lot of damage. The reality is that a large megaton blast, even in the water, would be very destructive.

‘The immediate worry wouldn’t be about radiation because a huge number of people would killed by the blast, shockwave or burns, first.’

The threats of nuclear action believed to be the result of the UK’s staunch support for Ukraine, while experts also fear Putin will deploy nuclear strikes ‘to cause misery and destruction in recognition of Russian failure to conquer Ukraine’. 

The latest warning comes after Russian war propagandist Vladlen Tatarsky – who called for the destruction of Ukraine – was killed in a bomb attack in St Petersburg on Sunday. 

The staunch supporter of Putin had been speaking at a political event at the Street Food No 1 cafe when he was handed him a small statue of himself that was reportedly laden with explosives, killing the propagandist and injuring 32 others.
