‘It’s ACTUALLY coming home!’ Britain’s biggest brands get behind supporting the Lionesses tonight with Sainsbury’s cryptic billboard taking social media by storm (but can you tell what it means?)

• England faces Germany today in the final of the Women’s Football at 5pm 
• This is the Lionesses’ first final since 2009 and is expected to be watch by 15m

Major brands have given their support to the Lionesses facing Germany tonight at 5pm. 

Specsavers, Yorkshire Tea and John Lewis have all come out for England after the Women’s team qualified for their first Euros final since 2009 on Wednesday night, as they demolished Sweden 4-0 at Bramall Lane.

And to celebrate their success, Sainsbury’s released a new billboard to cheer on the women’s football team who will play their first championship final on home soil since the 80s at sold-out Wembley. 

They joined in the fun with a cryptic message to a classic football anthem which you can see below. If you are struggling to get it try sounding out the veg and fruit. 

While opticians Specsavers also went down the subtle route with an eye test saying ‘It is actually coming home’ in reference to England, who have never won the tournament, playing their first and last final at home in 1984.

Back then, some players’ husbands were unable to join the crowd of 2,500 at Luton Town’s Kenilworth Road ground because they could not afford the transport. 

The game only had halves of 35 minutes instead of 45 and a smaller ball than that played with by men was used. 

Sainsbury’s was asking the public to sing swede carrot lime or Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond to cheer on the players this afternoon. 

The puzzle also won a lot of plaudits on social media with radio presenter Stig Abell saying ‘well played’. 

Another social media user shared a GIF from the American sitcom the Big Bang Theory saying ‘go sports’ to cheer on sportsmen and women at the Euros, the F1 and and Commonwealth Games. 

The US Embassy in London hasalso shown their support for England’s Lionesses ahead of their show-stopping finale against Germany on Sunday by recreating Alessia Russo’s backheel goal in a hilarious clip.

On Twitter, the embassy shared a skit where Aaron Snipe, the US Embassy spokesperson, walks along the England bunting-covered corridors of the Nine Elms office before being stopped by colleague Rita Rico, the deputy press attaché.

She shows him a document before telling him: ‘Look at the rules. As a US diplomat you can’t take a position on this – you cannot support England in the Euro finals.’

Mr Snipe takes a look at Ms Rico before scrunching up the piece of paper, and in slow motion, he drops it to the floor, only to kick it in the same jaw-dropping way England forward Alessia Russo dashed the ball backwards into the goal.

Yorkshire Tea also joined in the fun posting a tongue in cheek Tweet about how they will change their name if England wins. 

They said: ‘Good luck today Lionesses – if you win, we promise to make this box art permanent!’ 

And then wrote: ‘Legal clarification: the social media department has been strongly reminded it has no authority to make this promise, and told to attend a formal training meeting first thing tomorrow.’

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge are expected at the game with daughter Princess Charlotte, seven – a keen player who is said to be ‘really good in goal’.

After England’s semi-final win, Prince William congratulated the team, saying: ‘The entire country is so proud of everything you’re achieving. We believe in you and will be with you all the way!’
