Screaming woman is punched by driver after trying to flee car crash

A screaming woman was punched and dragged back inside in a car by its driver after trying to flee a crash.

The incident unfolded after a grey Volkswagen Golf crashed into parked cars in West Reading in Berkshire.

A woman was seen trying to leave the car while calling for help – but was pulled back in by the driver.

He then punched the woman as the car drove away, shortly before 4.45pm on Friday, reports GetReading on InYourArea .

The Golf was recovered in Tilehurst and Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses.

The offender is described as a black or mixed race, mid to late twenties, with short hair and facial hair.

Officers also want to speak to the victim, who has not come forward, she is described as a mixed race, in her twenties, with her hair in a bun.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant John Yallop, said: “This was a distressing incident for members of the public.

“As such we are taking this incident extremely seriously.

“We are carrying out a thorough investigation to identify the victim who we are very keen to speak to.

“Additionally we are carrying out extensive enquiries to trace the offender in this incident.

“We are asking any members of the public who may have witnessed this incident to come forward, particularly if they have dash cam footage of the incident.

“Additionally if anyone has further information about the VW Golf to please also come forward.”
