‘The rats are everywhere’: Sea of hundreds of bags of rubbish seen outside £240-a week student accommodation in London has sparked vermin infestation, say students amid housing ‘nightmare’

A huge pile of rubbish bags outside a student accommodation block have sparked fears of a possible rat infestation.

Footage showed hundreds of black bags piled up outside Grand Felda House in Wembley, north west London, which charges students up to £494 a week.

The enormous pile of litter included Waitrose shopping bags, a discarded box of Quaker oats, plastic bottles, flattened cardboard boxes and takeaway containers.

A clip showing the mess was posted by mother Jaquie Finn on X, formerly Twitter along with a message describing it as a ‘health and safety nightmare’ and suggesting that the building had a rat infestation.

She told MailOnline: ‘My son and his friends are there and it’s dreadful.

‘They called me in despair yesterday as they have been fobbed off by Grand Felda since the September start date.’

‘The rats were everywhere and the stench is dreadful. ‘ 

She said that lifts were broken in the building, and that her son and his friends were ‘sad and very upset’ to be living there, which she said was costing her £233 a week.

Her post read: ‘Brent Council please advise, this is a health and safety nightmare at Felda Grand in Wembley.

‘Rat infestations, no access to public areas and stench with rotting waste.’

It added: ‘Students pay for this privilege. Please put pressure on the management company.’

The 802-bed student house, operated by CRM students, charges £194 to £494 per week 

The 802-bed student house on Empire Way is owned by CRM students, which operates over 100 schemes totaling 24,000 bed spaces across the UK and Europe.

Grand Felda House is advertised as ‘affordable accommodation’, charging between £194 to £494 per week. 

Its facilities include a games room, up to 140mbps Wi-Fi, and residents are entitled to free membership of the neighbouring gym.
