A Denver grand jury indicted two brothers in a deadly double shooting in Green Valley Ranch, and both men have been charged with first-degree murder.
Sergio Rodarte, Jr., 24, and Andrew Rodarte, 23, have been charged with the May 1, 2021, shooting deaths of Mariceo Negrete and Josiah Salas, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
The victims were shot at a house party in the Green Valley Ranch area in the 4600 block of North Odesa Street. The brothers arrived at the gathering, where there were about 50 people, and argued with Negrete just prior to the shooting, according to a grand jury indictment in the case.
The indictment describes the defendants as gang members. Both brothers were armed at the party, where Sergio allegedly shot Negrete and Salas, firing eight shots with a .45 caliber semi-automatic weapon, the indictment said. Andrew was also armed and drew an “unknown semi-automatic weapon” at the time of the shooting. Salas was shot three times, and Negrete “multiple” times. Both defendants allegedly blocked a door to a back patio at the time of the incident so no one could enter or leave.
The brothers have both been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and four counts of possession of a weapon by a previous offender, according to prosecutors.
They have a bond hearing scheduled on Dec. 9 in Denver District Court.
