The Long Shadow is being released on ITVX next month and the Yorkshire Ripper crime thriller will comprise seven episodes.
Mark Stobbart from Line of Duty will play Peter Sutcliffe, while Katherine Kelly portrays one of his victims.
Suttcliffe killed 13 women between 1975 and 1980 and he usually struck them on the head and stabbed them.

And ahead of the anticipated new series that will give a fresh perspective to the notorious case, sick Sutcliffe merchandise is still being flogged online.
Etsy is advertising a wide range of Yorkshire Ripper merch while true crime fans are being warned that stock is running low on some items.
One gory card costing £4.96 shows a headshot of the serial killer with the words: “I’m Gonna Hammer My Love Into You.”
The description reads: “The Yorkshire Ripper’s weapon of choice was a hammer, so is this card sweet or violent? I guess it depends on what kind of hammering we’re talking about here.”
Only four cards were left at the time of writing and one impressed reviewer wrote: “Omg we LOVE THIS it’s exactly what my daughter wanted for her 15th birthday invitations!! Great job and they arrived fast.”
Another said: “I am in love with these. I literally am vibrating from excitement to give them out. The quality is also superb!”
One seller is also flogging an A3 print of Sutcliffe’s infamous mugshot for £15.
The painting shows blood splattered across his face and the word “filth” scrawled on his forehead.
One woman left a five-star review before sharing a wall in her living room with similar portraits of Fred and Rose West along with a sign that says: “Let’s talk about serial killers”.
More Sutcliffe merch included a £7 tea towel called “Scumbags + Baddies”, which included portraits of the world’s most evil men from Harold Shipman, Ted Bundy and Dennis Nilsen.
It also has a picture of Sutcliffe beside Myra Hindley and Ian Brady.
The description reads: “Dry the dishes with the dirtiest of souls. From Bundy to Kemper via all the worst rogues that we have nightmares about. One for true crime fans and the evil incarnate.”
One buyer wrote: “I bought the towel to frame for my daughter. I was a little disappointed that the pictures were off centre.
"There is more of a margin on the left side then the right and it looks kind of strange in the frame. Other than that I am very happy with the product.”
A second person wrote: “Exactly how I expected it. Perfect gift for a friend who is retired from Thames Valley Police (plain clothes)! Thank you!”
Another said: “Great tea towel, really pleased with it. Got one for a friend too, who equally loved it. Rather strangely, my fridge freezer ‘died’ the day it arrived!!!!”
A fourth went with: “Purchase this for a fellow psychopath friend and colleague for her birthday. She absolutely loved it!!! She plans to frame it and pop it onto her wall. Thank you so much for an awesome product that's right up our street.”
And a last comment read: “Absolutely fab! My equally morbid friend is going to love it!”
Sutcliffe “trading cards” worth £4.87 are also being sold – and when the Daily Star viewed the item there was one left in stock and one was in somebody’s basket.
The description reads: “This card is from the controversial 1992 True Crime trading cards series that included 220 cards on serial killers, mass murderers, gangsters, and g-men. This card is in great shape — spotless, unbent, and protected within an acid-free trading card sleeve.”
Daily Star contacted Etsy in response to some of the merchandise we found on the website.
