A Denver Public Library branch was closed on Friday as a safety precaution after receiving threats.
The Hadley Branch Library, 1890 S. Grove St., closed after consultation with the Denver Police Department, library officials said.
“There was a specific threat to the Hadley Branch library and after discussions with police, we decided to close the branch to ensure staff safety and wellness,” said Olivia Gallegos, a communications manager with DPL, in a statement. “As a public serving entity – we take all threats seriously and prioritize the safety of our staff and customers.”
In September, Denver closed all of the city’s public libraries, and an Adams County high school canceled classes the same day after receiving threats amid a surge of hoax calls and threats of violence both in Colorado and across the nation.
In the earlier case, DPL received an unspecified “digital threat” that came from outside Colorado. The branches citywide reopened the following day.
An investigation into the Hadley threat is ongoing. The library plans to “reopen as soon as it is safe to do so,” Gallegos said.
