Revealed: The brutal prison videos filmed on smuggled phones that are being shared online by violent crooks chasing notoriety from behind bars
- Prisoners smuggling phones into prisons to film brutal attacks and drug taking
- Footage seen by MailOnline is now being investigated by the Ministry of Justice
Shameless prisoners in the UK are smuggling phones into their jail cells to record themselves taking drugs or viciously attacking other inmates, MailOnline can reveal.
Images, filmed in jails nationwide, are being uploaded to social media as caged criminals seek to chase social media notoriety from behind bars.
Shocking footage, seen by MailOnline and now being investigated by the Ministry of Justice, shows how inmates savagely deal out gruesome jail ‘justice’, with prisoners violently attacking alleged sex offenders and ‘snitches’.
In one clip, a man is viciously yanked from his bed before being brutalised by a fellow inmate, who punches and kicks him in the head while other lags egg him on.
Other videos show prisoners being ambushed as they enter a cell or communal toilets, away from the prying eyes of jail guards.

In another video, a prisoner is shown with blood pouring out of his face after being viciously attacked by a gang of other inmates, who repeatedly punched him in the face
While another sickening recording shows the moment a prisoner begs for his life as a gang of thugs ruthlessly beat him on his bed.
‘I ain’t done nothing,’ the terrified man pleads as he is battered by a barrage of punches from fellow inmates, who then callously order him to ‘shut up, shut up’ and ‘stop shouting’ before launching a television at his head as he squeals in pain.

So vicious and graphic are some of the attacks, that MailOnline cannot share them, with one video appearing to show a man having part of his ears hacked off, while in another, a person is held to the floor and repeated stabbed in the stomach.
All the clips have been shared on social networking app Telegram, on the account HMP TV Explicit. Some videos are also being added to the group’s Instagram page, which had previously been deleted by the social network.
It’s thought the phones have been smuggled into jail after being thrown over walls or airlifted by gangs using drones.
As well as the savage jailhouse maulings, inmates also shamelessly film themselves taking drugs and messing around – with one proudly declaring ‘HMP TV official’ before smoking the so-called ‘zombie drug’ spice, a synthetic form of cannabis, in his cell.
Within seconds of smoking the drug – which a police and crime commissioner branded the ‘most severe public health issue we have faced in decades’ – the man’s speech begins to slur as he sways from side to side. ‘Not bad that man… that’s proper mackerel,’ he says.
In another post, topless prisoners sporting Mohawk hairstyles – and with one holding a six inch blade – threaten a new arrival to HMP Risley in Warrington, Cheshire – which is nicknamed ‘Grisly Risley’ for its violent reputation.
A prisoner warns him: ‘Soon as you land here lad you’re going to get it, you little maggot. You’re going to get opened up on site you little muppet.’
One prisoner is filmed holding a sharpened ‘shank’ – a term for a weapon made in jail – as he threatens to stab another incoming inmate during a video released on social media from behind bars
Some prisoners film themselves as they brawl behind bars, cheered on by other inmates
One video appears to show the moment an inmate smokes so-called zombie drug ‘spice’ – a form of potent synthetic narcotic artificially created to try and mimic the effects of cannabis
Inmates laugh in the background on the film as he went on: ‘You’re going to get marched, skerched and left in the dirt lads!’
One video shows a prisoner being stabbed in the hand with a screwdriver – apparently for fun. While in others, inmates record themselves rapping in jail.
Not all the content shared in the group – which has almost 3,600 ‘subscribers’ in it – is from the UK; other sickening clips appear to be from the US, Mexico and Syria, with some showing gangland executions or people being tortured to death and mutilated.
A source told MailOnline: ‘Some of our worst convicts – who are inside for committing some pretty heinous crimes – are posting daily videos to this Instagram account using illegal phones.
‘They’re fighting, doing drugs, rapping, talking about wanting a ‘bitch’ and generally breaking the law. They even film oblivious prison officers.
‘What happened to locking these reprobates away from society for punishment and rehabilitation?
‘They’re giggling on the footage like they’re a bunch of naughty schoolboys. But after the crimes they’ve committed it’s not funny, it’s absolutely outrageous.
Other inmates are filmed appearing to smoke drugs in their cells – with the footage then shared in a group on Telegram
In another graphic video, one prisoner is filmed as other inmates stamp on his repeatedly
‘Thousands are watching these films, so there are loads of people out there who’ve seen what they’re up to. Yet the authorities obviously don’t have a clue.’
Possession of a mobile phone in jail is a ‘serious offence’, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Inmates can receive an extra two years behind bars if they are caught in with an illegally smuggled phone in jail.
The Ministry of Justice confirmed to MailOnline that an investigation into the footage has now been launched.
All incidences of social media misuse are investigated thoroughly by the Digital Media Investigation Unit, which works with social media companies such as TikTok to get content removed. A total on 97 X-ray body scanners are also used to detect smuggled phones, contraband and weapons.
A Prison Service spokesman added: ‘Phones are not tolerated in prisons and those who break the rules face tough punishment – including extra time behind bars.
‘Our £100million investment in airport-style security – including X-ray body scanners – has helped stop over 28,000 attempts to smuggle drugs, phones, and weapons into prisons since last October, curbing the contraband that fuels jail violence.’
