Bare-breasted feminist activists were arrested after staging a protest against world leaders at a World War 1 remembrance ceremony.
The Ukrainian radical activist group ‘FEMEN’ were demonstrating outside the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France where world leaders were commemorating the 100th anniversary of WW1.
Their stunt on Saturday morning began with the topless radical feminists jumping out of a car at the Place de l’Etoile before climbing the barriers of the platform.
Beneath the arc is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which plays host to an annual commemoration event marking the anniversary of the 1918 armistice signed by Germany and the Entente Powers.
This is where 70 world leaders are expected to attend the ceremony marking the centenary of the war’s armistice on Sunday.
FEMEN activists shouted “welcome war criminals” during their protest in reference to visiting leaders including US president Donald Trump and German chancellor Angela Merkel.
The women were also brandishing posters splattered with fake blood.
Another sign quoted the famous quote from George Orwell’s novel 1984: “War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.”
When police arrived to disrupt the protest, the women ran into traffic but were quickly apprehended.
Officers then take away the topless women, who had “Fake Peacemakers” written on their chests, and load them into their vans.
FEMEN has become well known for its members’ topless protests over the years.
This includes an event last year, where the group turned up at an event celebrating the work of Roman Polanski at Paris’s Cinematheque Francaise film archive.
The French-Polish director, whose work includes The Pianist and Chinatown, arrived at a show in October when a crowd of the women began abusing him.
Another activist of the self-proclaimed ‘sextremist’ group was caught celebrating Mother’s Day this year by appearing topless in Vatican City.
Visitors to St Peter’s Square looked on shocked as a mother from the radical feminist group was grabbed by police while breastfeeding her child in the middle of passing crowds.
