Brazen travellers have been pictured enjoying the sunny weather after setting up an illegal camp opposite an exclusive row of homes in Worcestershire’s Malvern Hills.

Around 15 caravans pitched up on the picturesque Peachfield Common in Malvern on Saturday afternoon.

Pictures show a fleet of flash 4x4s parked next to caravans with travellers sunbathing and chatting as they enjoy the heatwave.

Outraged residents from £800,000 properties nearby have hit out at the ‘unauthorised encampment’.

One said: ‘The travellers rocked up in their expensive cars and 4x4s, pitched up their caravans and started sunbathing like they owned the place.

‘It’s appalling that neither the council nor police do anything to stop them.

‘This is an area of outstanding natural beauty yet there is no protection from this kind of unauthorised encampment.

‘No one wants to see fences or gates going up on the common but there must be a better way to deter this flagrant illegal behaviour.’

Another said: ‘I walked my dog near the site on Monday and it was pretty intimidating.

‘Some young children were kicking a glass bottle around and I got some pretty hard stares from the adults as I walked past.

‘I’m sorry to say that I saw litter and some dirty nappies flung around the sides of the field which is just so sad to see.

‘The problem is that now they have set up a camp her once, more will see it as a soft touch.’

The illegal camp overlooks the Malvern Hills and is just two miles from the former home of England’s greatest composer, Edward Elgar.

West Mercia Police confirmed that the group has been asked to vacate the site.

A police spokesperson said: ‘They have been served a notice to move by the Malvern Hills Trust.

‘We are expecting them to start leaving by Monday.

‘We are paying attention to the area.’

Despite the warning from the trust and the police, the travellers were still on the site on Monday evening.
