A HOMEOWNER is furious after a furniture company left his new sofa jammed on the stairs and trashed his walls.

Luke Ansell, 27, had just moved into his new home when he bought the £2,000 Chesterfield couch that was delivered last week.

He said the delivery men assured him they made tight drop-offs "all the time"- but the pair abandoned the king size sofa-bed halfway up the staircase.

Photos of the shocking attempt show it wedged between the bannister and walls, with huge holes on the surrounding plasterwork.

There are also scratches on the walls and ceiling, chips missing from the paintwork, and scratches all over the leather armrests.

Luke shared the snaps on Facebook and four "lovely members of the community" came to help him move it upstairs.

The post was flooded with comments comparing the scenario to a scene in the TV programme Friends in which a sofa is similarly stuck on a staircase while Ross shouts "pivot".

Sales director Luke, from Bournemouth, Dorset, said: "Honestly it was unbelievable.

"The sofa was over £2,000 and they caused about that much damage delivering it."

Luke said he showed the removal men, from online retailer Designer Sofas 4U, where he wanted the couch when they first arrived to carry out the "white glove service".

They allegedly admitted the space looked "quite tight" but assured him they would manage it.

"I just said 'oh well you're the experts' ," he added.

"They are a delivery company after all so I just left them to it."

But the duo "struggled" to get it over the bannister then got it stuck halfway, unable to move it up or down, Luke said.

They reportedly then announced they had to get back to Birmingham and asked him to sign for the delivery, but he refused.

"We had a little bit of an argument about it, and then they suggested I cut away the bannister to get it out," Luke added.

He said the company later rejected his account of events when he complained, with the delivery men allegedly denying they ever tried to get it up a staircase and insisting the sofa was "left in a safe place on the landing".

'UNBELIEVABLE'

Newlywed Luke, who runs pet grooming service For The Love Of Dog with his wife Elouise, described the service as "shocking".

"It's a brand new house that we had just bought for half a million, and now we have to have the work done to repair it," he fumed.

"They just left it there and went back to Birmingham.

"The drivers also said they didn't even try to get it up the stairs, but I have actual doorbell footage of them after they delivered it to my house.

"I have a photo of them at the bottom of the stairs after the damage was done too.

"They've destroyed the plasterboard, and damaged all of the wooden skirting on the stairway. They've damaged the sofa too.

"It was just a shocking response by the company, so I'm just trying to raise awareness about their standards of service."
