Seven people were killed when an aircraft and helicopter collided above the Italian Alps in January. Shocking video footage from the Italian Mountain rescue team Soccorso Alpino shows a serene scene turn into chaos as the helicopter began spiralling out of control after crashing mid-air with a small tourist plane.
Two cameras, which were found near the crash site, capture the moment the tourist plane from Mege’ve in France and the Italian heliski helicopter collide above the Italian Alps on January 25.
The two chilling videos are taken from separate viewpoints – one appears to be from the outside of the aircraft while the other is from the front window of the helicopter.
The first shocking video shows debris fly in the air as the aircraft collide.
The second video from the front of the helicopter shows it spin out of control before plummeting to the ground.
Speaking to Italy’s RAI radio, a police spokesman said the plan had appeared to enter into Italian airspace without informing air traffic control.
The helicopter was carrying six people and the tourist plane was carrying three pilots taking part in mountain flying training.
Rescue helicopters from Ivrea, Turin, and Piedmont rushed to the scene immediately following the collision.
Five people were found dead at the scene of the crash and another two bodies were found the following day.
