A city hall has been forced to remove a Karen-themed Halloween display after a furious resident claimed the scarecrow was made to look like her.

Maricela Sanchez, from Prosser, Washington, claimed the scarecrow donning a ‘Can I speak to the manager’ shirt with shoulder-length black hair resembled her – and was a part of the ongoing attack on her.

Prosser City Hall announced the removal of the festive fall decoration after Sanchez claimed it was installed in ‘retaliation [against her] for opposing a city bond proposal on the upcoming ballot.’

The bizarre Halloween scarecrow – with a pointed face, straw hat, and broom stick – poked fun at ‘Karens,’ a nickname given to demanding and entitled women.

Sanchez has actively been sharing anti-City Hall bonds posts on her Facebook account and encouraging her friends and followers to vote no on the ‘expensive, unnecessary tax expense.’

She told NBC Right Now: ‘This past weekend, City Hall entered an annual Halloween decorating contest with a ghoulish scarecrow dressed up to look like me.

‘Prosser City Hall engaged in targeted, public harassment of a private Prosser citizen on public grounds.’

She said the ‘grotesque effigy’ was meant to ‘publicly humiliate a city resident.’

The display, put on by City Hall, featured a tiny yard sign reading ‘Karen’s Garden’ and the scarecrow was surrounded by bright orange carnations and tiny pumpkins. The scarecrow was also decked out in fall attire, featuring jeans and scarf and a straw hat.

It was taken down on October 17.

It was apart of the annual Fall Decorating Competition downtown, where two winners are awarded trophies or Best Overall Display and Best Theme.

This year’s judging goes until October 23 and winners will be announced on the 28th.

The city apologized for the display, saying it was ‘inconsistent with the spirit of the competition.’ They denied that it has any resemblance to Sanchez or is a retaliation against her opinion on the bond.

‘This was in no way intended to be a political statement, a likeness to any individual or community group,’ Prosser City Administrator Thomas Glover told NBC Right Now.

‘We have investigated the issue internally and found that no one who participated in creating the entry intended any malice. These actions were regrettable, but unintentional.’

The city will host a training class for employee to discuss why the display was insensitive.
