AFL great Wayne Carey says the white substance he was found with at Perth’s Crown casino was not illegal.
The former player confirmed to The Age he left the casino after dropping the powdered substance on the floor while gambling at the Perth venue on Thursday.

“It was not an illegal substance, it was offered to security. Security didn’t take it,” Carey, 51, said.
“They just said it’s not a great look, I understood that, and we left without incident.”
Carey said the powdered substance was an anti-inflammatory that he took with dinner.
The Herald Sun reported on Monday evening that Carey has been banned from Crown premises for two years after being caught with a “bag of white powder”.

In a statement, Crown confirmed a patron was escorted from the premises on Thursday.
“We are aware of a recent incident at Crown Perth where a patron was escorted from the premises. The incident was handled within our standard procedures and due to privacy reasons, we are unable to provide further comment,” the company said in a statement.
Crown Perth said its priority was ensuring guests, employees and the community were kept safe.
“As trained professionals, our employees are entrusted to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for customers and staff at all times, and will take necessary action to ensure these policies are abided by.”

Meanwhile, Channel Seven’s managing director in Melbourne and head of network sport, Lewis Martin, confirmed Carey had agreed to temporarily stand down from his role as a football commentator.
The former AFL star also writes a column for The Age.
