A couple whose love of Wetherspoons’ chips brought them together are engaged after meeting on a Facebook group ridiculing pub-chain’s ‘paltry chip count’.
Toby Shrive, an IT project engineer in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, popped the question to his partner of two years, bride-to-be Heidi Smedley, from County Durham.
Mr Shrive announced his engagement in the fateful Facebook group that brought the couple together, staggered that a simple reply on a group post would lead to the next chapter of his life.
He posted: After two years of getting to know each other and forming a very special bond, we’re now looking to move onto the next stages of our lives together.

Mr Shrive posted a photo with the heartwarming announcement of him clutching his beau’s hand to show off her dazzling square-cut engagement ring.
He added: ‘We even had to regale a jeweler with our story today’.
The couple have also gone Facebook official, updating their profiles and announcing the exciting news to their friends and family online.
The update got over 60 likes as friends and family commented under the profile update to congratulate the young couple.
In the post on the group page, Mr Shriver said: Our love of Wetherspoons’ chips brought us together so I’ll always be thankful for this group’.
