What is the New World Order?
The term "new world order" refers to a new period of history evidencing a dramatic change in world political thought and the balance of power in international relations.
The phrase “new world order” does have legitimate meaning in the context of geopolitics.
It was used during and in the aftermath of World War I when world leaders such as then-US President Woodrow Wilson looked to devise systems of international governance to prevent future conflict.
That resulted in the formation of the League of Nations in 1920.

After the war, Wilson argued for a new world order which transcended traditional great power politics, instead emphasizing collective security, democracy and self-determination.
However, the United States Senate rejected membership in the League of Nations, which Wilson believed to be the key to a new world order.
Presidents Mikhail Gorbachev and George H. W. Bush used the term to try to define the nature of the post-Cold War era and the spirit of great power cooperation that they hoped might materialize.
However, it is thought that the term in this instance was used to describe better relations between countries.

Joe Biden caused controversy when he used the term in March 2022, saying: "Now is a time when things are shifting.
"We’re going to – there’s going to be a new world order out there, and we’ve got to lead it. And we’ve got to unite the rest of the free world in doing it.”
The criticism of his use of the phrase was because of the other connotations that that it comes with.
What is the New World Order conspiracy theory?
It is a conspiracy theory that hypothesizes a secretly emerging totalitarian world government.
It's the idea that these leaders are secretly implementing a dystopian international governing structure that will grant them complete control over the global populace.
It has a complex history, with different variations and beliefs as to what the New World Order means.
