BARONESS Louise Casey has found that the Metropolitan Police is in need of radical reform, according to a report published on March 21, 2023.

Who is Baroness Louise Casey?

Baroness Louise Casey is a government official, who focuses on cases of social welfare.

She was born on March 29, 1965, and grew up in Portsmouth.

She was appointed as head of an investigation of culture and standards of the Metropolitan Police, following the death of Sarah Everard at the hands of police officer Wayne Couzens in 2021.

What was in the breakdown of the Met Police officer’s review?

Casey found that the Met Police was in need of radical reform, after she accused them of being institutionally racist, sexist and homophobic in her March 2023 report.

She called for the the armed protection unit to be broken up. This was where Couzens and serial rapist David Carrick both worked.

Baroness Casey also found that the police in its current state were failing women and children, and that their own disciplinary system was not fit for purpose.

She made 16 recommendations in total, which included the formation of a new women's protection force.

Casey said that if changes were unable to made, then the force should be broken up.

She said: "If it cannot be changed or fixed then we should revisit.

“If they cannot get it right then we probably need to split the Met up but I do think they can reform it.”

She pointed out the violence and serious sex crimes against women were not investigated properly.

What other cases has Lady Casey reviewed?

Casey has led other high profile investigations.

In 2022, Met Police commissioner Mark Rowley admitted he cried after reading the drafts of a damning report by Casey which revealed that officers were breaking the law and being retained by the force.

She was appointed to review the circumstances behind fan disorder during the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy at Wembley.

This is after thousands of fans without tickets attempted to force entry into the stadium before kick off.

In February 2020, Casey was appointed by then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson to help tackle homelessness.

In 2014, she was appointed by Eric Pickles to lead an investigation into child services, after child sexual abuse revelations in the area.
