BBC Strictly’s Annabel Croft shares heartbreaking photo with late husband

Annabel Croft admits she sobbed when she heard song

Strictly Come Dancing’s Annabel Croft has shared a heartbreaking photo of herself and her late husband Mel Coleman on holiday, after revealing the daredevil activity that she enjoys the most.

The 57-year-old former tennis champion disclosed to her 29,000 followers during a Q&A that she and Mel had holidayed together in their favourite holiday spot, Portugal, “for years”, attaching a sun-soaked photo of themselves on a sandy beach to prove it.

Annabel, who sported a crochet dress wrapped her arm around her husband’s waist.

She also shared that she loved engaging in “exhilarating” wing-walking, which involves moving on the wings of a plane while it is in flight.

She exclaimed: “I did wing walking for a TV show, many years ago, that was filmed in Argentina. Madness and terrifying but exhilarating too!”

The star, whose dance performances with pro Johannes Radebe have impressed during Strictly, also took a trip down memory lane when a fan asked her who had “the best hair” she’d ever seen.

“My husband (especially in this picture),” she wrote, attaching a photo of his impressive mane billowing in the wind while he drove in an open air car.

However, she cheekily added that fellow sports presenter pal Andy Goldstein was “of course a close second”.

Annabel still thinks of Mel constantly, as they’d been married for 36 years, and has been finding her Strictly performances therapeutic as they provide a distraction from the pain of bereavement.

She previously told the Daily Mail: “I find the performing terrifying. I feel physically sick, but [at least] the effort involved means your brain doesn’t have room for anything else.”

“It’s bringing joy, or at least a glimmer of it, back into my life… Johannes is like an angel who came into my life to alleviate the pain, a little.”

Annabel became the youngest Brit to compete at Wimbledon for almost a century when she first entered at just 15 years old, and she followed up by becoming a champ three years later.

Just three years after that, she met yachtsman Mel when the pair appeared together on a TV show documenting how to learn to sail.

Following the traumatic death of her husband 16 weeks after his cancer diagnosis, Annabel focused on her dancing experiences – and she revealed on Instagram today that training sessions with her pro partner have “definitely” made her more “flexible and supple”.

Asked in a Q&A by a fan whether she’d be teaching Johannes how to play tennis in return for the dancing expertise he’s offered her, she replied: “Not yet.

“I am definitely going to get him on the tennis court and give her a lesson after we have finished Strictly though,” she vowed.

She described her pro partner as a “ball of joyful, positive, loving energy”, and added “everything about Strictly has been amazing and so magical”.
