Ben Unwin dead: Home and Away actor who played Jesse McGregor dies age 41

Home and Away actor Ben Unwin’s death has been confirmed by New South Wales Police Force after his body was found on 14 August.

Ben is a well-known soap actor, having played Jesse McGregor on long-running Australian soap Home and Away.

He starred on the show from 1996 to 2000, before returning again from 2002 to 2005.

New South Wales Police said in a statement: "Police attended Minyon Falls, Whian Whian, responding to a concern for welfare.

"The body of a 41-year-old man was located. The death has not been treated as suspicious."

After leaving Home and Away, Ben moved on from acting to study for a law degree.

He was working as a senior solicitor in Newcastle, New South Wales, before his death.

Home and Away’s TV network, Channel 7, released a statement to say it was “saddened” amy the news of Ben’s death.

A spokesperson said: "Cast and crew from Home and Away are saddened to learn of the passing of former castmate, Ben Unwin.

"Ben’s work in the role of Jesse McGregor is remembered with much affection.

"Ben’s family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers."

Some of Ben’s former co-stars have also paid tribute in the wake of his tragic death.

Ada Nicodemou, who plays Leah on the long-running soap, called the news "tragic" on Instagram.

She wrote: "I just woke up to the tragic news of Ben's passing, my heart goes out to his family."

Soap veteran Lynne McGranger, who plays Irene Roberts, wrote: “What a terrible tragedy. Sending my deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
