Big Brother narrator Marcus Bentley finally talks on controversial show decision

Big Brother narrator explains why opening show wasn’t live

Big Brother narrator Marcus Bentley has finally addressed the show’s controversial decision to pre-record the launch show instead of streaming it to the nation live.

The 56-year-old has now revealed in his distinctive Geordie tones that producers had been concerned about possible “chaos”.

Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden had been speaking to the voiceover actor on their Heart FM breakfast show this morning when he made his feelings known.

“It’s funny the launch show was pre-recorded… because normally those launch shows are big live shows,” Jamie stated.

“This one wasn’t live, which surprised me because I always thought it was one of the great things about Big Brother because it thrives on chaos generally.”

Acknowledging his concern, Marcus responded: “I think they were trying to avoid the chaos of new studios, new house, a new channel and so I think they just wanted to… evolve naturally and to be recorded, you know?”

More than 2.5 million viewers tuned in to watch the relaunch of the 23-year-old show and the production team were seemingly keen to be sure nothing could go wrong.

Yet viewers have been divided over the decision to offer a pre-recorded format, with some comments on Twitter (X) suggesting that the “chaos” is what they tune in for.

“The live aspect is the best part – when mistakes are made etc,” one exclaimed.

Another social media user argued: “Well this really isn’t a great sign.. either @ITVX have no faith in the @bbuk team or they’re dumbing down the format… neither are great. This really should be live, it’s not Love Island..! #bbuk.”

“I get it, but it’s not as exciting non-live especially if the houseguests leak,” a third fan grumbled.

Nevertheless, the debut for the first time in five years proved to be a huge hit, with new hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best now at the helm.

Viewers appreciatively commented on AJ’s daring fashion choice – a blue latex catsuit that clung to every contour of her body.

They also clocked her extra-long hairstyle, after she boasted a wig which trailed down to below the backs of her knees.

Twitter, now known as X, has been in uproar after excited viewers went there to comment on everything from the new hosts and channel change to the layout of the bigger and better than ever Big Brother house.

However, there have also been some tense moments, with Olivia being slammed as “racist” over comments she made to fellow housemate Yinrun.

Meanwhile, some fans expressed disappointment in their belief that the hosts seemed to “ignore” former Big Brother champ Cameron Cole at the Live and Late follow-up show.

The vlogger had written on social media: “Really enjoyed the last couple of days albeit I feel I’ve spent more time in a queue than I did in the BB house lol.”(sic)

His comment prompted other fans to agree with cries of: “Cameron Cole, previous winner of Big Brother sat in [the Big Brother: Live & Late] audience being totally ignored.”

Listen to Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden weekdays from 06:30 – 10:00 and on Global Player.
