Bobby Brazier had his dad Jeff in tears as he accepted the award for Rising Star at the National Television Awards.
The 20 year old actor, who plays Freddie Slater in BBC One soap EastEnders, was also emotional when he picked up the gong at the ceremony held at London's O2 Arena on Tuesday, 5 September.
Bobby had been sat in the celebrity audience with his dad, TV presenter Jeff Brazier, 44, and his EastEnders co-star Molly Rainford, prior to collecting the prized trophy at the awards show hosted by comedian Joel Dommett.
Speaking from the stage, he said: "I've been thinking about what I might say over the last couple of days and it's become very, very obvious.
"This actually has very, very, very little to do with me and everything to do with my dad… over the course of the last 20 years I've consistently heard him say, 'Because I can', it was a mantra or a motto of his, and him just saying that, 'Because I can!' you know, why not?"
Jeff smiled and wiped his eyes as Bobby spoke, while he was hugged by Anna Knight actress, Molly.
He went on to thank EastEnders bosses for believing in him when he had "no experience", quipping: "I still don't have a clue what I'm doing, to be honest."
And he added: "But they've all been so supportive, and just lovely and merciful and everything that I needed throughout the whole time and even still."
Bobby lost mum Jade Goody when he was just five-years-old after the reality star died from cervical cancer in 2009, aged 27.
Bobby had previously claimed he was too young to have any lasting memories of his late mother, telling press when asked what he recalls of her: "Not a whole lot. Maybe memories of memories. I'm always being told about her and what she meant to people.
Molly Rainford spoke to The Mirror yesterday about how she was helping Bobby train for Strictly Come Dancing. She said: "I joked to him, ‘How about we practise together, and then you say I taught you everything you know’. So that’s what’s happening – though of course, his pro partner may say different."
Aside from helping Bobby with his moves, Molly has also shared her advice with the 20 year old.
She explained: "My advice to him was just to enjoy it, and take it all in, and to expect it to be tougher than you thought.
"The work that goes in is much more than I expected… the routine you perform on Saturday definitely doesn’t look like that on Monday."
