Macy’s Inc. has announced that pop superstar Cher has been added to the lineup of performers for the 97th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 23.
The organizers announced that Cher will close out the show, making an appearance towards the end of the broadcast, when Santa will arrive in his sleigh to usher in the Christmas season.
Cher will join previously announced performers, including Jon Batiste, ENHYPEN, Brandy, David Foster and Katharine McPhee, En Vogue, Pentatoinx, Chicago, Paul Russell, Bell Biv DeVoe, Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors, Ashley Park, Jesse James Decker, Paul Russell, Amanda Shaw and Alex Smith and Manuel Turizo.
Macy’s said the parade will feature 16 giant character balloons, 26 floats, 32 novelty and heritage inflatables, 12 marching bands, 700 clowns and eight performance groups.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on NBC from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 pm ET.
Cher, who released her first-ever Christmas album, Christmas, on October 20th and unveiled the 25th anniversary edition of Believe on November 3, has not yet confirmed the list of songs she’ll perform during the Thanksgiving Day Parade broadcast.
“They’re not ‘Christmas Christmas’ songs, OK, they’re just great songs,” Cher said of her recent holiday release in an interview with Billboard. “And I never say that because I almost never like what I do. But I mean people love it and I’m happy. I’m so particular, but I love the songs and everyone who hears them loves them.”
