EXCLUSIVE: Chris Rock shrugs off Jada Pinkett Smith drama on carefree stroll in New York… after FUMING about her bombshell claims he asked her out on date amid Will Smith divorce rumors

Chris Rock was spotted out in New York after a source dished to DailyMail.com that he was left fuming over the recent bombshells Jada Pinkett Smith made about him in her upcoming memoir Worthy.

But the Saturday Night Live alum, 58, looked cool, calm and collected on Tuesday while enjoying a solo stroll in New York City following his getaway to Paris.

Rocking a navy hoodie and matching joggers, Chris kept a smile on his face as he was seen chatting on his cell phone. 

He had a bit of a low-key vibe as well, as he wore a beanie and big dark sunglasses for the Big Apple outing. 

Chris appeared relaxed and carefree, which comes after Jada claimed he once asked her out on a date while divorce rumors were swirling around her and Will Smith.

The 52-year-old actress has been busy making baffling reveals during her promotional tour for Worthy – including the news that she and Will have been separated for 7 years – and in an interview with People, she said Chris called her up one summer to shoot his shot. 

‘I think every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce,’ Jada began. ‘And this particular summer, Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce. 

‘So he called me and basically he was like, ‘I’d love to take you out,” she recalled. ‘And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No, Chris, those are just rumors.’

‘He was appalled. And he profusely apologized and that was that.’

Jada also recently shared that she hasn’t spoken with Chris since the infamous Oscars slap, when Will slapped Chris after the comedian made a joke about Jada’s bald head. 

‘[Do I have] any desire to talk to Chris? Here’s my desire: I just hope that all the misunderstanding around this can be cleared up and that there can be peace,’ she told the publication. 

‘I talk about this in the book, I think that there might be some misunderstanding between Chris and I as far as the 2016 Oscars. I think that he might’ve taken offense, which I meant no harm in offending. That wasn’t my intention. But I do think that there’s a big misunderstanding there.’

The 2016 drama began when Will didn’t receive an Oscar nomination for his role in Concussion. This exclusion coincided with a year where no actors of color were nominated in any acting categories, prompting the emergence of the #OscarsSoWhite movement. 

In response, some artists boycotted the awards show in protest, including Jada, who even called for Chris to step down as the host of that year’s ceremony. 

However, Chris didn’t back out and instead made a joke about Jada during the Oscars ceremony, saying, ‘Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties – I wasn’t invited.’

Looking back, Jada said she said she was ‘not really recognizing the level of pressure [Chris] might’ve been under’ at the time.

She said the pair apologized to each other shortly after the 2016 incident, but they hadn’t spoken until the 2022 Oscars fiasco, where Chris tried to apologize again, this time for the bald joke, per Jada.

‘Chris came down to the end of the stage and tried to apologize to me. He said, ‘I didn’t mean you any harm.’ I said, ‘I can’t talk about this now, Chris. This is some old s—.”

As for her reaction to the joke, Jada said, ‘I mean, that’s what comedians do.’ 

‘I would just have to say that I am not really here to make any judgment on how people decide to express themselves and express their art. I’ll say that several times I’ve had my feelings hurt, for sure. I’ve had my feelings hurt a lot by Chris. But at the end of the day, too, being in the spotlight, it comes with the territory.’

Don’t get it twisted: ‘And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No, Chris, those are just rumors.’

Mea culpa: ‘He was appalled. And he profusely apologized and that was that.’

Jada’s claims have left Chris deeply ‘frustrated,’ with insiders claiming he would prefer it if the actress kept his name out of her mouth as she continues to promote her tell-all book. 

‘Chris has said his piece on the entire Will Smith slap, but now with these new revelations from Jada that her and Will have been living separate lives it is just another WTF moment in the whole saga from these past few years between Chris, her, and Will,’ a source exclusively told DailyMail.com.

‘Chris hates that she keeps bringing it up and bringing up the other revelations about Chris asking her on a date and all of that.

‘He is a relatively private person and was just getting to a point where people may have started to move on, but now it is back in the limelight, and it’s just frustrating that everything is coming back to the forefront.’

The insider added: ‘Chris is over it and would actually love for her to keep his name out of her damn mouth.’

Will told Chris to ‘keep my wife’s name out of your f*****g mouth’ – before going on to win Best Actor for his role in King Richard that night.

Representatives for Chris, Jada and Will did not respond to repeated requests for comment. 

In the same interview, Jada also revealed that she and Will have secretly been separated for the last seven years – as she admitted that the pair, who tied the knot in 1997, are still trying to ‘figure out’ what the future of their marriage looks like. 

Speaking with Hoda on the Today Show on Wednesday, Jada explained why her marriage to Will broke down, divulging: ‘By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.’

As he sneezed the video comically zoomed out to show several different landscapes including mountains and lakes.

This comes after Smith enjoyed an excursion at sea on Sunday as he took to Instagram for the first time since estranged wife Jada revealed that they’ve been separated for seven years.

The star was seen riding in a boat days after his wife of 25 years spoke publicly about their marital estrangement; and he followed up Sunday with his own comments on the situation.

The Oscar-winning actor was seen sleeping in the cabin of the boat, with a voiceover that said, ‘Fun fact about me – I can take a nap almost anywhere,’ with the sound of multiple phone notifications going off simultaneously.

Smith, in an email published Saturday in the New York Times, said that Pinkett Smith’s recent comments on their relationship were a wake-up call to him, adding that she was more ‘resilient, clever and compassionate’ than he’d realized.

The King Richard star told the paper in an email, ‘When you’ve been with someone for more than half of your life, a sort of emotional blindness sets in.

‘And you can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties.’
