Christopher Biggins has said he thinks that Matt Hancock will make it to the final three in I’m A Celeb as he gave his take on the latest episode while appearing on MailOnline’s Jungle Confidential.

The 2007 King of The Jungle, 73, told how he thought the 44-year-old former Health Secretary’s ‘charm’ was winning over audiences and the camp of stars as well.

Matt’s decision to join the jungle has been controversial, with his fellow campmates like Charlene White and Boy George relentlessly grilling him on his choice to enter.

But Christopher said: ‘He’s doing everything brilliantly and however much you may hate him he is a player and he goes for it, he really does go for it he gets all the stars.

‘He feeds the camp, he’s charming and has won over the camp and I think is winning the audience over too.

‘Originally people thought the best thing would have been if he was first to go out. You never want to be first out as it’s humiliating.

‘And I thought people would want to humiliate him but no. I think he will go to the last three and last pivotal as they are the real big stars. He could make it to the final three given the way people are voting.’

However he admitted that Matt’s entrance has taken the shine off of other big celebrities in there like ‘funny’ Mike Tindall who he believes isn’t getting as much air time.

He said: ‘Having Matt in there takes away from everybody else and he has sort of become the star and people like Mike haven’t been able to show themselves apart from wearing budgie smugglers!

‘He is so funny I know him and I don’t think his funniness has come through at all. He’s brilliant. But you are completely at the hands of the editors so we don’t really know what he’s been doing. We aren’t seeing the best of him I don’t think.’

He also touched on the recent sexism row that has engulfed the show, after Charlene, Scarlette Douglas and Sue Cleaver were first to be eliminated.

He said: ‘Yes it’s very interesting, the third woman yes. But I can’t think it’s sexism I would be very surprised if it was.

‘But it is odd that none of the men have been touched. For instance Matt would have been my choice to go first.

‘Everyone hates him and no one wants him to be there but he’s been b***dy good! If he wasn’t him he would win! If he wins I’ll eat my computer! He could go right through to the end!’

He added that he was surprised that the three women had gone, saying of Coronation Street star Sue: ‘I was surprised at that but not by her reaction which was such was absolute excitement that she was going.

‘But I would have kept her in a bit longer – she has been rather good. I have been surprised by the three women that have gone. They were great and I would have kept them in much longer.’

Having his say: He also touched on the recent sexism row that engulfed the show, after Charlene, Scarlette Douglas and Sue Cleaver were first to be eliminated

On why he thought Charlene went he added: ‘Well she had a bad day with the trial and that went down badly with the public. And because she was a bit bossy with cooking.’

‘I’m surprised Boy George hasn’t gone yet. He is a force in there and sometimes it’s not a good force, he can be a bit negative and outspoken. The argument with Matt was quite something. He could be the first man to go.

‘It was interesting that he was very annoyed talking about his imprisonment, but it was a big thing in his career!

‘He should have been nicer about it or said why he did it I think he was embarrassed. It was wrong he was mean to Scarlette about it. I think he’s a diva and that is his pop career that has made him like that. I’m surprised he hasn’t gone yet.’

Unexpected: However he admitted that Matt’s entrance has taken the shine off of other big celebrities in there like ‘funny’ Mike Tindall who he believes isn’t getting as much air time

It comes as I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! fans appear to have had a dramatic change of heart about Matt as many are now hoping he wins.

The politician received huge amounts of criticism when it emerged he had agreed to become a contestant on this year’s series.

But after having survived the first three eliminations, many viewers now seem to want the controversial MP, who will reportedly pocket £400,000 for the show, to be crowned King of the Jungle.

His unpopularity at the beginning of the show was arguably reinforced by being voted to do six Bushtucker Trials in a row.

Opinions: He added: ‘I’m surprised Boy George hasn’t gone yet. He is a force in there and sometimes it’s not a good force, he can be a bit negative and outspoken’

However, viewers now appear to have eased off on the politician.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: ‘Matt Hancock to win, I love him,’ while another added: ‘Seann, Matt, Jill & Owen for final 4, I’d be happy for any of them to win.’

Several fans simply wrote: ‘Matt to win’ while another said he was ‘the best’.

Not all viewers have been convinced however, with one writing: ‘People saying Matt Hancock to win because he is ‘humble and kind’ need to have their heads looking’.

Bye: He added that he was surprised that the three women had gone, saying of Coronation Street star Sue: ‘I was surprised at that but not by her reaction which was such was absolute excitement that she was going’

Another added: ‘So weird how Matt Hancock has gone on I’m A Celeb and suddenly people have forgotten about everything he did to this country and are actually wanting him to win because other camp mates are ‘mean to him’, is this real? You’re joking please’.

Another viewer said: ‘If Matt Hancock wins I’m A Celeb I’m writing an email of complaint to Ofcom’.

Matt was forced to quit as health secretary last June after CCTV images showed him in an embrace with his married lover Gina Coladangelo, 44, inside the Department of Health during the height of the pandemic.

But speaking to a business podcast in February, he said the relationship started ‘quite quickly’ after legal social distancing curbs were lifted and replaced by guidance.

Speaking to The Diary of a CEO podcast, Matt said he ‘fell in love’ with Coladangelo after bringing her in to work with him.

He told the podcast host, entrepreneur and Dragons’ Den investor Steven Bartlett: ‘It actually happened after the rules were lifted, but the guidance was still in place. I resigned because I broke the social distancing guidelines by then.

‘They weren’t actually rules. They weren’t the law. But that’s not the point. The point is they were the guidelines that I’d been proposing. And that happened because I fell in love with somebody.’

Controversial: The politician received huge amounts of criticism when it emerged he had agreed to become a contestant on this year’s series

People had to stay two metres apart from anyone outside their household or bubble, under the guidance at the time.

Matt stressed that his relationship with Miss Coladangelo was serious, saying he hated that some had ‘got the impression somehow that this was [casual sex]’.

The father-of-three expressed his regret at the pain that the affair had caused after it triggered the breakdown of his 15-year marriage to wife Martha to be with Miss Coladangelo – who was also married with three children.

He added that he had known Miss Coladangelo for ‘more than half of my life’ since first working together on the student radio at Oxford University.

She was brought by him into the health department for help with ‘public communications’.

Matt said: ‘We spent a lot of time together, ironically, trying to get me to be able to communicate in a more emotionally intelligent way.

‘And we fell in love. And that’s something that was completely outside of my control.’

He also admitted the Government knew some measures it took during the pandemic were ‘very damaging’.
