Former pop star and Emmerdale actor Jake Roche has revealed he is now living in his mum’s garage amid the current cost of living crisis. The ex soap star, 30, explained his current lifestyle is a far cry from the fame and fortune he once flourished in.

The actor previously appeared on the ITV soap for a number of months in 2010, where he played Hannah Barton’s friend Isaac Nuttal.

Jake also enjoyed a successful pop career, as the lead vocalist of the band Rixton, who charted at number one on the UK Singles Chart with their hit, Me and My Broken Heart.

He is the son of Loose Women panellist Coleen and his dad is EastEnders actor Shane Richie.

Jake, who was previously engaged to Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson, shared his thoughts about his career on TikTok.

The social media user quizzed the singer about his band and his current lifestyle.

Jake replied: “I’m on Universal Credit, and I live with my mum in her garage. I’m a failure.”

But the kind TikTok user was quick to comfort Jake, insisting that he was far from a failure.

“Firstly I’d like to say you are not a failure,” they replied. “Everyone goes through hardships in life and you will get through yours.”

Jake then smiled before saying: “Thank you, you are a legend.”

The former soap star recently took to Instagram and claimed he “missed his old life” as a youngster.

Taking to the picture-sharing site last month, Jake shared a photo of himself as a child alongside Simon Cowell and the EastEnders legend, the late June Brown.

In view of his 188,000 followers, he penned: “Miss my old life.”
